WEEKEND PROGRESS

Thank you to our hard working crews for safely and efficiently completing the work this past weekend at northbound El Toro Road off-ramp and southbound Alicia Parkway off-ramp. We thank motorists for their patience during the construction activity.

El Toro Road

Crews were able to complete the El Toro Rd. off-ramp work ahead of schedule and reopen lanes early.

Alicia Parkway

The traffic switch to the newly paved lanes on southbound I-5 at Alicia Pkwy. were completed Saturday morning.

2022 Milestones

The construction crews have been busy with great progress on the I-5 South County Improvements project.

UPCOMING: OSO PARKWAY WEEKEND FULL CLOSURE SOUTHBOUND LOOP ON-RAMP 

Crews will be conducting ramp work at the I-5 southbound Oso Parkway loop on-ramp the weekend of March 31 to April 3, requiring a weekend full closure. Detours will be in place.


WHEN:

  • 11 p.m. Friday, March 31, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 3


WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Southbound I-5 loop on-ramp closed at Oso Pkwy.
  • Ramp will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, April 3
  • Nightly lane reductions on southbound I-5 between Alicia Pkwy. and Oso Pkwy.
  • Signage will be in place to assist motorists with detours
  • Motorists should use Crown Valley Pkwy. as detour


The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

BIKEWAY CLOSURE

The Aliso Creek Bikeway will close temporarily on weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, March 20, for up to two weeks as crews perform maintenance under the bridge and adjacent to southbound I-5. Please watch for bikeway detour signage.

WOMEN IN TRANSPORTATION MONTH

During the month of March, the I-5 South County team celebrates Women in Transportation and the significant impact they've made in this industry. Follow along as the project team shares stories featuring individuals who left a lasting impression.


This week, we spotlight Bessie Coleman who soared across the sky as the first woman of African American and Native American descent to earn her pilot’s license in the U.S. Known for performing flying tricks, her goal was to encourage women and African Americans to reach their dreams – and this became her legacy. Though her life and career were cut short in a tragic plane crash, her life and legacy continue to inspire people around the world.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
