Closure of La Paz Road Loop

On-Ramp

The southbound I-5 La Paz Rd. loop on-ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. TONIGHT, Monday, May 1, to noon Tuesday, May 2, to allow crews to safely restripe lanes and shift traffic on southbound I-5 between Alicia Parkway and Oso Parkway. The traffic shift will create a work area for crews to demolish and reconstruct the last section of the La Paz Rd. bridge.



BRIDGE DEMOLITION


Nighttime Full Closure of La Paz Rd. at I-5

Crews will demolish the last section of the I-5 bridge over La Paz beginning as early as Friday, May 5, for three nights. La Paz and the loop on-ramps will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The freeway will remain open.


WHEN:

Nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, May 5, Saturday, May 6, and Monday, May 8.


WHAT TO EXPECT:

• Nightly closures of La Paz at I-5

• Northbound and southbound loop on-ramps closed nightly

• Signs will be in place to assist motorists with detours

• Plan for additional travel time through the area

LOS ALISOS BOULEVARD TRAFFIC SHIFT AND BIKE DETOUR

In preparation for the Stage 2 demolition of the Los Alisos Boulevard bridge, crews will be shifting traffic to the newly constructed side of the bridge. The work requires full closures of Los Alisos from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5.  

 

The eastbound Los Alisos sidewalk will be open after the traffic shift.

 

Please note: Bike lanes in both directions will be closed for approximately 12 months during the bridge reconstruction. Bicyclists will be detoured to the Aliso Creek Bikeway under the freeway.  


The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues. 

UPCOMING FULL CLOSURE I-5 -

LOS ALISOS BRIDGE DEMOLITION

Crews are expected to begin Stage 2 demolition of the Los Alisos bridge, requiring closure of I-5 in both directions between El Toro Road and Alicia Parkway. Demolition is anticipated as early as Saturday, May 20, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.


Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.


The work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.



The demolition of the bridge is required for the freeway improvements. The new Los Alisos bridge is being built in two stages, allowing it to remain open to traffic during construction. Construction activity is anticipated to take approximately 12 months.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
