NEW TRAFFIC CONFIGURATION ON EASTBOUND LA PAZ ROAD
A new traffic configuration is in place for motorists traveling eastbound La Paz to the northbound I-5 loop on-ramp. Crews have closed the far right lane of eastbound La Paz to the loop on-ramp for several months for construction activities. Motorists will now access the loop on-ramp by traveling in the #2 lane on eastbound La Paz. Please drive with caution through this new traffic configuration.
The duration of this work may change depending on site conditions and are subject to change due to unforeseen operational factors.
55 MPH IN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE
The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph throughout the I-5 South County construction zone and will be strictly enforced. Traffic fines may be doubled within the construction zone.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
OCTA and Caltrans are working together to improve freeway capacity and operations on a 6.5-mile stretch of I-5 from SR-73 to El Toro Road in south Orange County. This voter-approved $580-million project will add a general purpose lane in each direction of the I-5 between Avery Parkway to Alicia Parkway, extend the second carpool lane from Alicia Parkway to El Toro Road in both directions, reconstruct two interchanges and one bridge, and modify on- and off-ramps. To further improve operations, carpool lanes in the project area will convert to continuous access. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
