BRIDGE DEMOLITION

AVERY PARKWAY


⚠️ UPCOMING BRIDGE DEMOLITION AVERY PARKWAY BRIDGE


Crews will continue demolition work for the third and final span of the southbound I-5 bridge over Avery Parkway. This demolition is necessary for the reconstruction and improvement of the Avery Parkway Interchange.


For the safety of crews and motorists alike, the work will take place during the nighttime/overnight hours and will require lane, ramp and street closures. Signage and lane reductions will be in place. The southbound I-5 will remain open.  


When reconstructed, the new Avery Parkway Interchange will nearly double in size, adding turn and thru lanes, as well as improving traffic operations.


WHEN: 

  • Monday, Nov. 7 to Wednesday, Nov. 9
  • Nightly, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.


WHAT TO EXPECT: 

  • Nighttime demolition of the I-5 bridge at Avery Pkwy.
  • Southbound I-5 off-ramp at Avery Pkwy. nightly closure
  • Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Avery Pkwy nightly closure
  • Avery Pkwy. under the I-5 will be closed nightly, no through traffic.


The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues. 

SHORING REMOVAL

Crews will be removing shoring along northbound I-5, south of the Alicia Parkway on-ramp. Steel shoring is temporary support that holds up the hillside and allows crews to build retaining walls. The removal of this shoring clears the way for crews to finalize construction of a concrete barrier and building a new retaining wall.


WHEN:

  • Starting as early as Monday, November 16 and lasting up to three weeks.



WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Daytime removal of shoring


This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operations issues.

VETERANS DAY- NO CLOSURES

In honor of the upcoming Veterans Day, there are no scheduled closures Thursday, November 10 or Friday, November 11.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
