 31-HOUR WEEKEND
RAMP CLOSURE

LA PAZ RD. LOOP ON-RAMP
TO NORTHBOUND I-5

10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 to
5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28
The northbound (NB) loop on-ramp to I-5 from eastbound La Paz Rd. is scheduled to close from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28. During the 31-hour closure, motorists will be detoured to northbound Muirlands Blvd., and will then enter NB I-5 from the Alicia Pkwy. on-ramp. Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists.

This ramp closure is required so crews can safely tie-in the new temporary loop on-ramp and subsequently widen the freeway in the northbound direction. Barring the unexpected, the new temporary loop on-ramp will be open to motorists early the morning of Monday, October 28.
I-5 LANE AND RAMP CLOSURES
Intermittent lane closures on northbound and southbound I-5 are scheduled between Oso Pkwy. and Alicia Pkwy., 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly. At least two lanes will remain open at all times.

La Paz. Rd., between Muirlands Blvd. and Cabot Rd., will be reduced to one lane nightly in each direction from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MOTORIST ALERT:
TRAFFIC SHIFT ON NORTHBOUND I-5
Motorists traveling on northbound I-5 will experience a traffic shift between Oso Pkwy. and La Paz Rd. The northbound lanes were restriped to provide a dedicated work zone along the freeway shoulder so crews may safely work on the I-5 South County Improvement Project. The new, temporary striping consists of six inch white stripes, bordered by two inch black stripes.

The number of freeway lanes were not reduced, however, the shoulder within these limits was temporarily eliminated. Motorists will continue to have access to the carpool lane and four general-purpose lanes throughout the project limits.

Thank you for exercising caution while driving in this area and adhering to the 55 miles per hour speed limit. Traffic fines are doubled in a construction zone.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
OCTA and Caltrans are working together to improve freeway capacity and operations on a 6.5-mile stretch of I-5 from SR-73 to El Toro Road in south Orange County. This voter-approved $580-million project will add a general purpose lane in each direction of the I-5 between Avery Parkway to Alicia Parkway, extend the second carpool lane from Alicia Parkway to El Toro Road in both directions, reconstruct two interchanges and one bridge, and modify on- and off-ramps. To further improve operations, carpool lanes in the project area will convert to continuous access. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
