FREEWAY CLOSURES

Directional freeway closures planned between El Toro Road and Alicia Parkway

Crews will set girders for the second half of the Los Alisos Boulevard Bridge beginning Friday, Sept. 15.


  • Southbound I-5 will be closed from Friday night, Sept. 15 to Saturday morning, Sept. 16.
  • Northbound I-5 will be closed from Saturday night, Sept. 16, to Sunday morning, Sept. 17. 


If needed, the directional freeway closures will be implemented during the same hours on Sunday, Sept. 17 and Monday, Sept. 18, to complete work.

WHEN:


  • 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16
  • 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17
  • If needed, the closures will be implemented on Sunday, Sept. 17, and Monday, Sept. 18.


WHAT TO EXPECT:



  • Los Alisos Boulevard bridge will also be closed during this work.

NORTHBOUND:

I-5 Freeway – Northbound from Alicia Pkwy to El Toro Road 

from 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

SOUTHBOUND:

I-5 Freeway – Southbound from El Toro Road to Alicia Pkwy

from 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.


Detours and signs will be in place to assist motorists. Plan for additional travel time overnight this week. As always, the schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

55-HOUR CLOSURE

Weekend closure planned for Southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Avery Parkway

Crews will shift traffic to the new southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Avery Parkway. This requires a full weekend closure of both ramps as well as a portion of Avery Parkway. Work will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, with ramps and Avery Parkway reopening at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18.

  • 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 with ramps reopening at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept 18


WHAT TO EXPECT:


  • Full weekend 55-hour closure of southbound I-5 Avery Parkway on- and off-ramps as well as a portion of Avery Parkway from Camino Capistrano to the freeway bridge.


  • The northbound I-5 on- and off-ramps will remain open.


  • This work may be loud.


  • Detours and signs will be in place to assist motorists.

Prepare for lane, ramp and street closures this week

Following the Labor Day holiday crews are back at work along the full project corridor. Expect overnight freeway lane closures and reductions, ramp closures and street closures throughout the week. Plan for additional travel time, especially overnight.

  • Sept. 11-17


WHAT TO EXPECT:


  • Northbound I-5 nightly lane closures/reductions from SR-73 to Oso Parkway, Alicia Parkway to El Toro Road starting at as early as 8 p.m.


  • Nightly ramp closures at Avery Parkway, Crown Valley Parkway, Oso Parkway, La Paz Road, Alicia Parkway and El Toro Road starting as early as 10 p.m.

In late in Sept., an extended ramp closure at La Paz Road is scheduled. The outreach team will alert local residents, businesses and other stakeholders.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The project, which spans the cities of Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel, is expected to be completed in 2025.
