Construction Update: Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements Project

The City of Encinitas is continuing work on the Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements Project, with the City’s contractor focusing on the northside irrigation improvements, the westbound bus pad and street parking between Bonita Drive and Nardo Road. Landscaping and intersection work in the area will be completed last.

Upcoming Detours:

Work has resumed in the school area, and detours will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The westbound lane of Santa Fe Drive between Bonita Drive and Nardo Road will be closed, with a detour route in place via Balour Drive and Melba Road. During this period, access to bike lanes and sidewalks will be restricted due to their proximity to the construction zone. Construction signage will direct cyclists and pedestrians along alternate routes. Flaggers will also assist with traffic flow during school drop-off and pick-up times.

We strongly encourage community members to avoid the construction zone if possible. For those who must travel on Santa Fe Drive between Bonita Drive and Nardo Road, please expect delays.

Current Phase of Work:

The contractor is actively working on irrigation improvements on the north side, which will supply reclaimed water to future landscaped areas near the school. Simultaneously, the project is starting construction of the westbound bus stop and completing the remaining street parking stalls. These new parking spaces will increase parking capacity in the area by 40%.
