GCEP Project Update

Hello Alexia,

Thank you for opting in to recieve regular email updates on the Greater Cambridge Energy Project (GCEP). Please see below for the latest updates on construction activities in your area.

Trench Excavation and Duct Bank Installation

As the Project continues trench excavation in several Cambridge locations, additional crews follow behind to install underground duct bank. The trench is then backfilled and temporarily restored in sections.

The typical process includes:

  • Sawcut existing pavement or concrete
  • Excavate trench and remove soils, area is covered daily with steel road plates.
  • Install duct bank into excavated trench
  • Backfill and temporarily restore trench

Duct bank is a group of tubes, known as conduit, that house and organize electrical cables. Once the duct bank is completely installed on GCEP, the electric cables can be pulled through each underground tube (conduit).

Trench excavation and duct bank installation are ongoing on Linskey Way, Third Street, and Ames Street in Cambridge.
