Construction is Imminent!
Before site demo
After site demo, ready for construction!
We had some late August excitement at the Fair Oaks EcoHousing site—lot clearing and demolition! The 1950's homes that were on the 3.7-acre property were knocked down, as you can see in the before and after photos.
We are finalizing our construction loan, and construction of the future homes will be soon be underway!  Our vision for this community has been four years in the making, and we’re thrilled to see physical progress.
We’ll be sharing updates with you as the community is built from start to finish. Look for our Groundbreaking Announcement in an upcoming newsletter.
Only One Townhome Left
Act fast! Fair Oaks EcoHousing has only one townhome left! It is a 2-story, 4-bedroom townhome (E). Features include large windows, an open living area, wrap-around porch, a downstairs bedroom, and, of course, eco-friendly construction.

Fair Oaks EcoHousing is a pedestrian-friendly village for residents of all ages, with a centrally-located clubhouse, pool and spa, and garden.   Click here to see the floor plan and learn more.
Congratulations to Member Kathy Burleson
We are proud of Kathy Burleson, the Drama Director of American River College.  She has been honored as the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival's "Person of the Year," acknowledging her years of work on behalf of the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival and for the inspiration of the 2017 season lighting design.
The Fair Oaks Theatre Festival is currently featuring Shrew! A Jazz Age Musical Romp. Last Saturday, ten of us attended the performance. We highly recommend the show -- it has one more weekend to play. For details, visit:
Kathy is hard at work on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, which opens at American River College on October 6th. For details visit

"Cohousing: the British families embracing communal living"
With their emphasis on shared meals and parenting, cohousing communities offer an antidote to the isolation of modern life, writes Olivia Gordon.

With housing and living costs spiraling in Britain, cohousing – in which many expenses are pooled, from laundry to cars to food shopping – can be a more affordable alternative. Typically each resident only has to shop for, cook or clean up after dinner occasionally, because these jobs are shared in rotation. As a result, everyone’s life becomes easier – and also more connected. Cohousing communities are in effect the family you get to choose.

This sense of security – being able to depend on your neighbors for both a hot meal and practical and emotional support – should ensure the growing popularity of cohousing in the UK (and the U.S. as well!).
