bayfrontVolunteers Clean Up Burlingame Bayfront

This past Saturday, September 16, the City of Burlingame held a cleanup event as part of the State's largest annual volunteer event - Coastal Cleanup Day. There were 170 volunteers of all ages who came together to clean over 2 miles of the bayfront along the SF Bay Trail. An estimated 970 gallons of trash and 200 gallons of recyclables were picked up in just 3 hours! The City would like to thank all of the volunteers who participated in the event and helped make it happen, as well as our sponsors Veolia North America and CloudCompli that provided snacks and water for our volunteers.

Save the date for next year's cleanup on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Interested in how the City is fighting stormwater pollution and protecting the Bay on a daily basis? Visit the Burlingame stormwater management page on our website .
kitHome Energy and Water Kit

Prepare your house for winter with the Library's home energy and water kit. Get some free weather stripping to help keep the cold out this winter. The weather stripping, along with other free devices, are part of a Home Energy and Water Saving Toolkit that can be checked out of the Burlingame Library for personal use. The Toolkit is filled with devices and information to save money, energy, and water. Users check out the toolkit (just like a library book) but get to keep the cool devices inside - like an LED lightbulb, weather stripping, and a low flow showerhead. The toolbox is then returned and restocked by the library. Look for the toolkit in your nearby library.
carseatNational Child Passenger Safety Week!

This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week!
The Central County Fire Department child passenger safety technicians work with parents and caregivers to ensure the safety of their children. The technicians take the time to go over all aspects of installing a child restraint in a vehicle, properly securing the child, and other safety tips. The technicians do more than just install the car seat. They teach you how to properly install your child's seat, so that you feel confident in your ability to safely reinstall it on your own. To schedule a car seat inspection for the residents of Hillsborough, Millbrae, and Burlingame please call (650) 558-7600.

rollinsNotice of Construction - South Rollins Utility Improvements

As part of the City of Burlingame's South Rollins Utility Improvements project, the City has hired Cratus, Inc. to perform the following utility improvements along Rollins Road:
  • New water main - Between Corbitt Road and Burlingame Avenue
  • New sanitary sewer main - Between 399 Rollins Road and Humboldt Road
Construction is anticipated to begin the week of September 25, 2017 and continue through March 2018, dependent on weather and other delays.

Every effort will be made to minimize the disruption and noise caused by construction activities. The City's Inspector will be present on the job site and will be happy to answer your questions or provide assistance if needed. Your patience during the construction is greatly appreciated.

What to expect during construction:

  • Construction hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • There will be one lane with flaggers during this time. Left hand turns will be restricted within construction area.
  • Temporary parking restrictions on side streets will be posted at least 48 hours in advance.
  • There will be uneven pavement, including metal plates, between construction and re-paving activities.
  • Plan for some short delays accessing properties or driveways. The contractor will temporarily place metal plates over open trenches to provide access when needed.
  • The Contractor should not need to enter your home. If there is a need to enter your home due to an emergency, the Contractor will be accompanied by a City representative, who will show proper identification.
  • Your water and sewer service will not be interrupted without proper advance notification.
noticeNotice of Extended Work Hours for Construction Activity

LOCATION:
Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, 1501 Trousdale Drive, Burlingame, California - Work will occur in the southeastern portion of the property adjacent to the south face of the hospital, near the fire lane and Albemarle Way pedestrian gate.

TIME PERIOD FOR ACTIVITY:
Work is to commence at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 and conclude by 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017

CONTACTS:
Lupe Sanchez, Sutter Health Design & Construction Project Manager: (510) 409-2630 or
Robert DeMann, Sutter Health Regional Manager for Facility & Property Services: (510) 457-8800

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY:
Sutter Health Facility and Property Services, on behalf of Sutter Health, the operator of Mills-Peninsula Hospital, has requested and received approval of an extension of work hours for construction activity (as noted above) in order to replace an in-line emergency valve in the natural gas line that serves the hospital facility that's purpose is to shut-off gas service in the event of seismic activity - the existing valve is defective and cannot be repaired.

Replacement of the valve will require a complete shut-down of natural gas service to the hospital for a period of roughly ten (10) hours in order to facilitate the replacement. Patient care and other activities at the facility heavily rely upon the use of natural gas, therefore, the timing for the valve replacement must occur at a time when impacts upon the hospitals functions may be minimized; the time selected is overnight on a weekend.
