Residents of Erving,

As you drive by the new library you will now begin to see a building take shape. Last week the remainder of the slab on grade was poured. Framing has begun and walls are beginning to form the exterior of the building. On site we also have electrical conduit going into the ground for primary electrical service and tel/data communication lines.
Q&A
What is the buildings structural system?

The building’s foundation and slab on grade consist of reinforced concrete. The framing of the building however consists of structural timber.

What is the roofing system?

The roof for the new library is unique as it is a prefabricated Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) System. These 12-1/4” thick panels consist of pressure laminated composite sandwiched between OSB panels which are secured to the buildings framing. These panels are unique because not only do they provide a well insulated roof similar to typical roofing panels but they also structurally support wind loads, snow loads and dead loads. Once in place these panels will be sealed with a layer of ice and water shield and finished with pac-clad metal roofing panels.
What to expect in the coming days:

Over the next few weeks the building will continue to be framed, vertically at exterior walls and the interior walls will be framed shortly thereafter. Roof beams will be delivered to the site in the next week as well and will begin to be installed. Site drainage and utilities will continue to progress.
