Greetings Residents of Westfield

May 2023 - Newsletter 1

It has been a long time coming, but the School has broken ground. These construction newsletters are developed and generated by the Owner's Project Manager, to keep the community informed of the progress being made on the site. We look forward to sharing our progress with you!

An OPM is an individual or firm hired by a community to represent the owner’s interests throughout the design and construction phases of a building project. The City selected P3 - Project Planning Professionals, out of Norwell, MA as the OPM for the project. P3 has been offering OPM Services throughout New England since 2008 and is passionate about guiding projects from Design to Constructions so that communities get the best building possible. P3 has worked on multiple municipal projects for the City of Westfield since 2010.

Caolo & Bieniek Associates, Inc. has been providing architectural services since 1955. Their design process integrates a creative approach to problem solving with a sustained commitment to client needs. CBA's extensive experience in Western Massachusetts made them an ideal designer for the school project.

The General Contractor for the project is Fontaine Brothers out of Springfield, MA. Fontaine Bros has been serving as a Contractor in Massachusetts since 1933 and has spent decades building education buildings throughout the Commonwealth.

What to Expect from this Project

We broke ground on the project in late April 2023 and the project has an anticipated completion date of November 2024. The School Community is expected to take occupancy of the building over the winter holidays of 2024. While construction projects can experience supply delays, the project team has taken this into consideration when choosing materials and when submitting orders for materials and we do not anticipate supply delays to affect the project schedule. P3 has continued to be successful with keeping projects on time despite the the recent tumultuous supply chain environment that have impacted construction the last several years.

Construction will not disrupt the educational experience of the students and the construction site has been made completely separate from the school community. Neighbors of the projects can expect an increase in construction vehicle traffic and ambient construction noise during working hours.

Coming up this month....

Over the next few weeks, the work crews will pile the accumulated loam and begin the excavation of the retention basin for the storm-water recharge. The workers will also remove the unsuitable soils from the location of the actual structure.

Once these tasks are completed the contractor will begin the task of placing the foundation footings and the actual foundation.  These tasks will take approximately a month.

While the site preparation progresses, the project manager, P3 and CBA will be busy approving every piece of material to be used. Each piece is submitted and then approved by the designers for quality conformance to the project specifications. The management team will verify that the materials used match the approved materials and that the quality of construction is on par with industry and specified standards.

We ask that you enjoy the construction of your new School from a safe distance. Please do not enter the construction site and be respectful of the workers, as we are asking that they are respectful guests of our community.
