Hot Topic, Cool Heads
"Can the U.S. Lead the Israelis and Palestinians Towards Peace?" Dartmouth Dickey Center sought to answer that question in a dialogue between Assistant Deputy Secretary of State Andrew Miller and lecturer Ezzedine Fishere, a former Egyptian diplomat. "We have to work on both sides of the equation and try to ensure that the security questions are addressed," said Miller. He emphasized the U.S. is "very much prioritizing" freeing hostages.

St. Patrick's Day in Song
Musician extraordinaire Wayne Cripps of Norwich recently performed Upstairs at Dan & Whits. His flute flaunting included "Kitty McGee" and "The Lark in Clear Air." Of the latter he said, "Being Irish, it originally had words about rebellion and fighting but was turned into a love song as seems to happen in Ireland." Cripps, the former Computer Systems Manager in Dartmouth's Computer Science department, also plucked clawhammer banjo renditions of "Soldier's Joy" and "Arkansas Traveler." Produced by community producer Chad Finer.

A Daunt-ing Odyssey
One hundred and forty-eight days. That's how long it took Lebanon interior designer Carolyn Matthews-Daut to hike all 2,193.1 miles of the Appalachian Trail. "With my life on my back, I walked in snow flurries, hurricanes, sleet, and sun. I walked until I bled, until I laughed and cried," she told listeners at the Norwich Bookstore. "I walked my way out of the deepest depression of my life. I found that I possessed an adventurous spirit which, when lost, can only be found in the wild places of this world." Her new book is Paint, Sweat, and Tears.
