BELIZE MEDICAL MISSION TRIP-Part 2
|
July 25, 2019. 4:20 p.m. EST-
The request of a resident of the Teakettle Village became truth on the week of July 14-21. He had contacted the
SDA Ft. Lauderdale Church
via Social Media and asked for their support and medical services. This is how the Health Ministry of the church took action and in less than 4 months organized a Medical Mission Trip to Cayo District.
From registering patients, working with children in the Vacation Bible School, painting and remodeling the SDA Tea-Kettle Remnant Church, and providing medical screening, all missionaries and local church members were actively involved in the Tea-Kettle Village.

Belizean Star of the Month!
Rhodel Castillo

|
"The Garifuna Artist, Rhodel “Rhodee” Castillo grew up in the coastal Garifuna communities of Hopkins Village and Dangriga Town in Belize. At a young age, Rhodee’s musical experience took a life of its own within the cradle of his Garifuna culture. He was inspired to be a singer and artist by family members, local musicians and performers.
After graduating from Belize College of Arts and Science and Technology (BELCAST), Rhodee emigrated to the United States in 1986, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Chicago State University, two years later. In 1994 he received a Master’s Degree from Roosevelt University, also in Chicago, all the time keeping his heart and mind close to his Garifuna roots."
Mr. Rhodel is married to Yolanda Castillo and is the father of 2 sons and 1 daughter. In 2008, he opened a restaurant and named it "Garifuna Flava", a Chicago “Taste of Belize” restaurant that celebrated its 11th anniversary on June 1st. The restaurant recently garnered the WOW Award at this year’s Taste of Chicago held at Grant Park from July 10 to 14, where 82 food vendors participated. The taste of Chicago is one of the largest culinary events held in the United States with a focus on diversity. Thanks to Mr. Rhodel and his wife many Americans and tourists have been able to learn more about Belize's culture and cuisine. They have both provided support to local Belizean organizations, donated items for fundraising events and participated at days at the park.
