We welcome you to June’s newsletter where we will once more be sharing some interesting and engaging information. Young Belizean soccer player, Rybert McNab, recently signed a contract with a US university, the annual International Jazz Festival took place in Belize City while Lieutenant Alma Pinelo became our “Belizean Star of the Month” as the first Belizean and female to receive the prestigious Honor Graduate Award!
Last, but not least, “What’s Trending,” is that Placencia, San Pedro, and Caye Caulker had an active month with all the Lobster Fest celebrations while Miami received Team Belize who were sponsored by BTB for the region’s premier culinary competition at Taste of the Caribbean!

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, the Heads of State and of Government of Central American countries convened in Guatemala City for the LIII Summit of the Central American Integration System (SICA). SICA leaders met to take stock of the progress of the region’s integration agenda in several areas including security, social and economic integration, climate change, and the ongoing migration challenge.

RISING BELIZEAN FOOTBALL SENSATION IN AMERICA!

Belizean football rising sensation in the United States, Rybert McNab, is the son of former Belizean football player, Francis McNab, of Belize and he has been making some positive and outstanding moves as a soccer player in Long Beach, California.
McNab recently signed a four year university contract to play soccer (football) at Belhaven University in the United States. He is not the only Belizean to play soccer for a four year division university in the U.S. though there had been others before him. But his performance today has indeed caught the attention of Belize and Belizeans as a promising Belizean football prospect.

2019 Belize International Jazz Festival

The Belize International Jazz Festival celebrated its 5th year of bringing the world of Jazz to Belize! The 2019 inauguration took place at the Mexican Institute in Belize City on June 5th with performances by well-known artists Dawn Drake, Omolewa Osain, Sincopa Jazz and Morena Son.
All events were geared at visiting tourists, encouraging citizens and a multitude of performers from Belize, Mexico, Cuba, and the United States. The BTL Park served as the location of the Closing Concert on Sunday, June 9th. If you missed the Festival, click the image below to see a snapshot of the Closing Concert.

BELIZE MEDICAL MISSION TRIP-Part 1

June 24, 2019. 2:39 p.m.EST-
In less than a month, 26 volunteers including one medical doctor, three nurse practitioners, two registered nurses and members of the Ft. Lauderdale SDA Church Health Ministries Department will depart Miami for a 7-day mission trip to Cayo.
The team will visit the
King's Children Orphanage
to distribute clothing, school supplies, and other gifts, and provide medical, eye, blood pressure, and diabetes screening in the Teakettle Village.
To fund this trip, the Health Ministries Department sponsored a Father’s Day Dinner/Award Banquet and is still open for any voluntary contributions.

Alma Pinelo: Belize Coast Guard Honor Graduate

The Ministry of National Security and the Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard are proud to acknowledge Lieutenant Alma Pinelo for receiving the Honor Graduate award after successfully completing the International Maritime Officer Course at the US Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia, U.S.A.
Lieutenant Alma Pinelo is the first Belizean and the first female to receive this prestigious award. Her name and country will be enshrined into the Honor Graduates Hall of Fame.
The International Maritime Officers School resides within the International Resident Training Branch at Training Center Yorktown. The Schoolhouse provides an in-depth overview of U.S. Coast Guard organization, planning and management of its missions to mid-grade coast guard, navy, maritime police and civilian equivalent personnel from around the world. The school is staffed by a dedicated team who schedule and coordinate with over 80 instructors, each an expert within their field, to actively participate in the school instruction.

|
Ingredients:
- Lobster Tails: 6 tails, 6-8 ounces each, cut in large chunks
- Lobster Crust: 1 pound
- Dry White Wine: 1/2 bottle
- Local Dark Aged Rum: 3 fluid ounces
- Heavy Cream: 4 fluid ounces
- Carrots: 1 medium size
- Onions: 2 medium size
- Celery: 1 stalk
- Tomatoes: 7 medium sized
- Zucchini: 1 medium size
- Sweet Pepper: 1 medium sized
- Garlic: 4 cloves
- Thyme Leaves: 1 teaspoon
- Bay Leaves: 3 whole leaves
Preparation:
1. Lobster Base Sauce
Sauté the lobster crust in some olive oil. Set aside 1 tomato, 1 zucchini, 1 onion, and 1 sweet pepper for later and the add the remaining vegetables and herbs and continue to simmer for 10 more minutes. Add the white wine and 4 cups water and bring the sauce to boiling point. Let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes before straining it through a fine sieve. Reduce the liquid till half remains and thicken with a bit of cornstarch if required. Bring sauce to boiling point and season with salt & pepper.
2. Lobster Robert
Cut the remaining onions, peppers and tomatoes into 1/2 inch cubes. Take the lobster tails out of the shell and cook the shells in some boiling water. Cut the lobster into large chunks and season them with some salt & pepper. Sauté them in a little olive oil for about 2 minutes. Add the vegetables and continue to sauté for 3 more minutes.
Flame the seafood with the rum and add the lobster base sauce and heavy cream. Bring the dish to boiling point and let simmer till the lobster is cooked. Place the cooled lobster shell on the plate and fill the shells with the seafood mixture. Serve this dish with some white rice or fresh baked Creole Bread.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that notification of the Special Agreement between Belize and Guatemala to submit Guatemala’s territorial, insular and maritime claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of 2008, along with its Protocol of 2015, was deposited to the Registrar of the Court in The Hague, Netherlands, today, June 7, 2019.
