December Word of the Month: Courage
|
|
We close the year with the December value of courage. This month we meet Katherine Wollenberg, who is in a line of work where courage is absolutely essential. But she'll be the first to tell you, it's not just firefighter/ paramedics who are courageous — find out what courage means to her, and who else among us she believes exhibits this trait.
-
Note: In partnership with the Office for Diversity and Inclusion and Dr. Jeffrey Hines, our chief diversity officer, we're bringing back the Word of the Month in 2024. Send your nominations of outstanding colleagues who embody UConn Health values to thepulse@uchc.edu.

We are having a “Christmas” celebration in a UConn Health department. To be fair to all who don't celebrate Christmas, what is the best way to term our “Christmas” party as to not offend anyone? For example can we use “holiday celebration”?
Thank you for asking. I shared this with Dr. Jeffrey Hines, our chief diversity officer, who tells us he and his colleagues in the Office for Diversity and Inclusion favor the terms “holiday party” or "winter party" for unit celebrations on campus.
Thank you for your sensitivity to this.
