Welcome to our first e-newsletter. For over twenty five years we have helped people facing abusive debt collectors, predatory lenders, credit reporting errors, wrongful foreclosure and car repossessions. In this newsletter, we offer some tips on how to protect yourself in the constantly evolving world of consumer privacy and financial abuse. If you find them useful, we hope you will share our tips!
Deadline: Opt Out of Forced Arbitration
Credit card companies are moving to require arbitration for the settlement of any disputes, preventing customers from suing and the potential for class actions. Customers must opt-out by writing to their bank by August 7 or the provisions will automatically apply. Print and submit this form to protect your rights!
Order Your Credit Report
Do you know what a mixed file is? Do you know who has been looking at your credit? Did you know that there is only one government sanctioned website for obtaining your credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion? Do you know how to properly dispute inaccurate information on your credit reports? You can learn all this and more following these easy steps. Contact us with any questions!
Consumer Victory in Maryland Court of Appeals
On February 27, 2019 Maryland's highest court confirmed that the statute of limitations in a residential lease is 3 years, regardless of the fact that many landlords inserted fine print in the lease saying it was 12 years. This ruling will affect thousands of Maryland consumers who no longer have to worry about getting sued 8, 9 and 10 years after they moved out of an apartment. If you are being pursued for consumer debt more than 3 years old, feel free to contact us for a review of your situation.
