Consumers Treated Themselves to More High-End Spirits in 2020
Restrictions on travel and going out in 2020 led to consumers spending more on items such as spirits, candles, and spaghetti to treat themselves, according to Wall Street Journal. Spirits priced above $40 accounted for 40% of the spirits category's growth in the US last year, compared to 34% in 2019.
"This has been unlike any other recession that we’ve experienced," said Lawson Whiting, chief executive of Brown-Forman. “In the US, ultra- and super premium spirits are gaining share at faster rates than in the pre-Covid time periods."
