2024 NSERC Prizes recognize outstanding achievements in science and engineering
Eighteen of Canada’s leading scientists and engineers, alongside 13 industry partners, have been honoured for their extraordinary achievements and contributions to research and training across various fields. Kerry Rowe, a distinguished Canadian civil engineering researcher, has been awarded Canada's highest science honour, the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, valued at up to $1 million.

Message from the Tri-agency Presidents: Granting councils transitioning to a new CV template
The presidents of the granting councils are pleased to announce that we will be gradually transitioning away from the Canadian Common CV (CCV) to a new narrative-style CV for our competitions. The new CV will prioritize written descriptions of an applicant’s research contributions, allowing users to highlight a wide range of research outputs and to describe their career trajectories in more detail.
NSERC releases a new summary report of Gender Based Analysis Plus in its programs
At NSERC, we are committed to continuing to work towards ensuring fair access to funding opportunities and fair assessment of applications to contribute to a more equitable postsecondary research ecosystem in Canada. As part of this effort, we apply GBA Plus to take a critical look at funding opportunities to identify and address barriers that limit access to programs and funding.
The Council of Canada Academies releases EDI report
The Council of Canadian Academies published its NSERC-supported report entitled Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Practices in the Post-secondary Research System. It explores the state of knowledge regarding measures that organizations in Canada and around the world are implementing to achieve equity, diversity, and inclusion in the post-secondary research system.
Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Development and Review of Research Proposals
NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC and the Canada Foundation for Innovation are pleased to unveil the Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Development and Review of Research Proposals. Intended for researchers in Canada and Canadian post-secondary institutions, the guidance draws heavily on the advice from a panel of external experts and on feedback from the research community received during a public consultation period that closed in June 2024.

National Science Foundation Global Centers addressing global challenges through the bioeconomy

Government of Canada invests in research on avian influenza A(H5N1)
This investment supports the ongoing direct action by the Government of Canada to fight the spread of H5N1 and protect Canadians. These projects will enable research on the most time-sensitive evidence gaps and immediate research needs related to the current outbreaks of avian influenza A(H5N1) in animals and the risk of further transmission to human populations.
The Government of Canada invests in new research projects to develop solutions towards sustainable agriculture
The NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable Agriculture Research Initiative (SARI), is a joint initiative between the NSERC and SSHRC, in collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), to initiate and accelerate the development of solutions to support a sustainable agriculture and agri-food sector in a net-zero economy.
Government of Canada announces creation of external advisory panel on the creation and dissemination of scientific information in French
The advisory panel’s mandate will be to analyze the current dynamics of the creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge in French in Canada, and those of official language minority communities and Quebec.
College and Community Social Innovation Fund grants 2025 competition now open
These grants are intended to foster community innovation by connecting the talent, facilities and capabilities of Canada’s colleges and polytechnics with the research needs of community organizations. Applications must be submitted by February 26, 2025 before 8:00 pm (Eastern Time).
