In 2019 and the years preceding, our college welcomed students, staff, faculty, alumni, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and general public onto our campuses for Remembrance Day ceremonies. 2020 is a very different year, and while we aren’t able to come together this year, we encourage our college family to pause for a moment of silence at 11 a.m. today.

“My experience at Georgian was an incredible start to my career,” says Alison Houston, a two-time graduate of Georgian College’s Business Administration and Human Resources programs. “I want to support my community, collaborate with like-minded individuals and continue to make an impact in areas that are of interest to me.”
Alison is one of six Georgian alumni to join the college’s Alumni Association Executive Council this year, and is looking forward to bringing her voice to the table. When asked what she is most looking forward to during her time on the council, Alison notes her interest in ensuring that alumni feel a strong sense of community that supports resilience and “that shows support and care while we forge through this strange new environment”. She adds her belief that “this is a great time for us to join forces and search for outcomes that will continue to drive innovation and excellence in the academic world”.
Alison is originally from Ripley, Ontario and first chose to study at Georgian because she had heard great things about the college’s business and co-op programs, and believed that the combination of great academics and practical experience was important to her, in addition to the “great campus vibe”.
Today, Alison works in the field of cyber security for a tech company, and shares that her appreciation for the work she does stems from her love of technology, and how it “can propel companies in so many ways to optimize their operations''. She also launched a new company this fall that empowers women in navigating their careers in the tech sector, and volunteers herself to support kids in a ready set goal program as a kid’s coach for a non-profit organization.
