Parent After Prom Contest Winner!

HC DrugFree is pleased to announce that River Hill High School parent Henrietta Kan won the annual Parent After Prom Contest. Mrs. Kan will receive a $100 gift card simply because her daughters attended RHHS's After Prom instead of private parties. The contest drawing was held at the June Teen Advisory Council (TAC) meeting. Pictured left: RHHS senior Tiffany Kan with her mother. Pictured right: RHHS junior and TAC member Athena Kan. Congratulations Mrs. Kan!

HC DrugFree thanks parents who make the choice not to host parties where there may be drugs and alcohol present.

Senior Week in Ocean City Update
With many Howard County high school graduates at the beach in Ocean City this week for Senior Week, HC DrugFree would like to share information from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office. Click here to read the information from the Sheriff regarding an unsanctioned event called "College Takeover Beach Week" purported to arrive in Ocean City June 5-8.

HC DrugFree is saddened to hear of the recent death by drowning of an 18 year old Montgomery County high school graduate during Senior Week in Ocean City. Click here for an article from an ABC News affiliate about the incident and for water safety tips. HC DrugFree offers its Senior Week: Staying Safe in Ocean City program in the spring to educate high school seniors and their parents so the graduates can experience a safe and fun week at the beach. There are many factors that go into having a safe week at the beach and staying away from drugs and alcohol are just a piece of that. Ocean City Police Department's Corporal Howard Caplan shares with teens and their parents how to avoid dangerous situations and risky behavior, and Ocean City Beach Patrol Sergeant James McVey teaches ocean safety, including how to identify a rip current. Corporal Caplan can be reached at 410-723-6610 or by email at [email protected]. He encourages parents with concerns about their teen's safety to contact him.
