Membership Update: Credo School of Arts, Letters, and Sciences is granted full membership status!

The Board of Directors of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education is delighted to announce that Credo High School has been awarded full membership status and, with that, approval to use the terms “Waldorf” or “Steiner” in its school name or tag line. Credo completed its extensive self-study and peer review with a site visit before the COVID-19 pandemic led to closures.

Credo is a stand-alone high school located in Sonoma County, Northern California. It has developed an innovative approach to high school education and was able to demonstrate a strong, clear enactment of the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education and plans for continued development, including an emphasis on teacher development.

Congratulations to Credo High School for this richly deserved recognition of your work!

Fall Board Meetings
The Board of Directors and Advisory Board of our Alliance will hold its annual Fall retreat and meetings on September 17th, 18th, and 19th. Unlike “normal” years when we gather to visit schools and enjoy extended time together, this Fall’s meetings will be conducted on Zoom for shorter periods of time over three days. Topics for Board discussion will include: finalization of staff positions and Board structure; strategic planning and goals in light of the pandemic; member services for the upcoming year; our ongoing work with AWSNA, WECAN, and other associations. We intend that all work be conducted, to the best of our ability, through an anti-racist lens.

Trust For Learning - Report on Educator Preparation
A recent research project and report examined eleven “ideal” approaches to early childhood educator preparation, including Waldorf. Quality early childhood education is a foundation for success in many areas of life and is a key challenge and opportunity for social justice and equity. The report has interesting insights into educator preparation overall and places Waldorf within a broader context. The Alliance is a member of the Ideal Learning Round Table, which is part of the work of the Trust for Learning.

Professional Development and Teacher Preparation
Interested in learning more about anthroposophy, the philosophy at the foundation of Waldorf education? Would you like an opportunity to extend your own “foundation” studies? The Anthroposophical Society of North America will be offering a new series of courses in “Applied Anthroposophy.” They suggest that this may be of interest to parents, teachers, and Board members.
