Individuals coping reactions post-trauma remain poorly understood, even by many of the people who are in the best positions to offer support and treatment to trauma victims. Trauma-informed care (TIC) means treating a whole person, taking into account past trauma and the resulting coping mechanisms when attempting to understand behaviors and treat the patient.

The goal for this introductory training is for clinicians to gain an understanding of trauma-informed care, which suggests that professionals move from the question of “ what is wrong with you ” to “ what happened to you ” and subsequently “ how should I approach you differently from what happened to you .”
