There is minimal focus on primary prevention strategies and some disparity between wellness approaches, psychological treatments, and medications when it comes to the treatment for depression.

This introductory workshop would give a framework for licensed psychologists to be able to explain to clients the role of different prevention and treatment modalities and how they can work together. Of special interest to psychologists would be the new treatment approaches like TMS and Esketamine, when and how to educate and refer appropriate clients. This workshop has a dual purpose. As clinicians are at high risk of developing burnout, stress, and depression due to the kind of work they do, the framework of prevention strategies would increase their awareness of self-care and resilience building to prevent burnout.

Using the analogy of five levels of defense, psychologists will learn strategies to be used for levels of severity of depression.
Learning Objectives Will Include :

  • Participants will be able to describe an increase in knowledge on the effects of work-related stress and depression on overall health and wellness and how to prevent and limit the suffering with lifestyle changes.

  • Participants will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize mindfulness skills and depression prevention strategies using Mindfulness and Cognitive approaches.

  • Participants will be able to list the different levels of treatment options for depression.
