CCB Moving to a New Office Location

After more than a decade of calling 803 N. Monroe Street home, Catholic Charities Bloomington will be moving to a new location! Starting August 18, you can find us at:

101 W. Kirkwood Avenue, Suite 140

Bloomington, IN 47404

Our new space offers easy access to parking and will allow us to continue serving our community with the same compassionate care you’ve come to know and trust.

We are deeply grateful to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington for more than 10 years of shared space and support. While we’ll no longer be under the same roof, we look forward to continuing our strong partnership and shared commitment to the well-being of children and families in our community.

All of our current services—including Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy for all ages—will continue at the new location.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new home soon!

Play Therapy: Not Just for Our Youngest Clients

Play therapy can be a valuable approach for clients who lack the skills to explain and explore their thoughts and feelings through more traditional talk-based therapy. Thus, play therapy is considered a go-to approach for our youngest clients. However, older clients can benefit from this approach as well, especially for those who find conversation challenging or lack a strong vocabulary for discussing their feelings.

CCB therapist Kirsten has worked with David*, a teenage boy with significant social anxiety, for several months using a variety of approaches including play therapy for adolescents. As a result, David is now able to participate in conversation and to maintain eye contact in sessions, and he has been consistently meeting his goals both within and outside of therapy. David's new arsenal of skills and coping strategies, developed through play therapy, have given him the confidence to more successfully navigate social situations and other challenges he faces in his day-to-day life.

Jack Hopkins Grant Supports Trauma-Informed Care for Low-Income Clients

In June, Catholic Charities Bloomington was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Jack Hopkins Social Services Committee of the Bloomington City Council to provide care to low-income Bloomington residents who have experienced trauma.

This grant will help clients using Medicaid, as well as the nearly 50% of our clients who utilize our income-based self-payment program, access high-quality care, including EMDR, internal family systems therapy, and play therapy. These and other evidence-based treatments can help individuals process trauma and develop healthier coping strategies.

CCB is grateful for the Jack Hopkins Committee's support, which helps ensure that finances are not a barrier to receiving care for our clients.

CCB Renews Partnership with

Hoosier Hills Food Bank

Catholic Charities Bloomington recognizes that struggles to meet basic needs can be a real source of stress and a barrier to improved mental health for our clients.

To help clients meet these needs, CCB partners with a variety of community organizations, including the Hoosier Hills Food Bank (HHFB). As an HHFB member agency, CCB is able to offer a variety of snacks and take-home items to our clients who might be facing food insecurity.

CCB Community Outreach Coordinator Emily Cook writes, “We try to stock a mix of pantry basics and grab-and-go snacks for our clients. Our youngest clients particularly appreciate the option to grab a snack or juice box before their sessions, which can really help them focus and feel more comfortable.”

CCB is grateful for this community partnership and its benefits for our clients.

Avoiding Common Planned Giving Mistakes

Many donors do not feel confident in their knowledge of planned giving. This is not surprising as there are common misconceptions about the subject. For instance, donors may feel they have to be extraordinarily wealthy to consider a planned gift – which is not the case. Donors can make any manner of planned gifts in any gift amount during their lifetime or at the time of their passing. It’s the “planned” in planned giving that is key. In the planning process of your intended gift, it is important to avoid common mistakes such as:

·        Sending your gift to the wrong charity (many charities have similar names, so you want to double-check you have the right one)

·        Not providing the charity with the details of your gift. Sometimes, monies are sent to us without any donor or beneficiary information. Always provide this information directly to the charity so your gift can be matched when it arrives. At the Archdiocese, we encourage you to use our giving forms that can be found at: www.archindy.org/ccf/fordonors

·        Not informing your family, and especially the executor of your estate, of your bequest intentions. Your intentions will best be fulfilled if you have previously communicated with your loved ones.

·        Not having an updated will. Best practice is to review your will every five years to determine if changes need to be made.

And, as always, we recommend you consult your professional advisors for legal or tax advice. If we can provide you with planned giving information, please contact the Catholic Community Foundation at ccf@archindy.org or 317-236-1482.
