EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION UPDATES
The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion’s Virtual Dialogue Series is on pause for the month of June, but we invite you to enjoy these selected previously recorded sessions at your own pace. We can’t wait to connect with you when we return.
The People First workgroup is designed to ensure that the campus is providing adequate support and responding to gaps and issues related to UC Merced campus-wide strategies on COVID-19.
UC MERCED CONNECT ANNOUNCED
UC Merced External Relations and the Office of Information Technology are collaborating with the campus community to bring you a new portal platform this fall!

This summer, the project is launching a redesigned campus-wide events calendar that will provide a dynamic look at all of the exciting things ahead—both on and off-campus, virtual and in-person.

And this fall, UC Merced Connect will offer all the functionality of the current portal, along with a new campus app to keep you connected on the go.
RESOURCES FOR ZOOM DELEGATES
If you need to schedule Zoom meetings on someone else's behalf, or you need someone else to be able to schedule Zoom meetings on your behalf, we've added new resources to the Zoom page to help!
UPDATES FOR FACULTY
RESEARCH RELAUNCH
Vice Chancellor Sam Traina and Graduate Dean (and incoming Interim Vice Chancellor for Research) Marjorie Zatz are leading a series of Research Relaunch Working Group webinars for faculty.

Join them this Friday to learn about the relaunch plan, risk mitigation measures, faculty responsibilities — including preparing operational plans, which must be approved prior to resuming research on campus — and monitoring of research space.

CETL: STUDENT-CENTERED REMOTE TEACHING
While we understand that online education and remote instruction are not the same, returning faculty and those new to remote instruction can capitalize on the “lessons learned by experienced online educators who are providing high-quality, engaging learning experiences for their students.” As you may have already learned, when teaching from a distance it is important to consider the new learning environment from a student-centered perspective (Riggs, April 15, 2020, par. 3).

In this short piece, you will be encouraged to think about focusing on creating three forms of interaction for students in the online and remote environment: student-content interaction, student-student interaction, and student-instructor interaction. Specific strategies for each interaction type are provided. But to be effective, these forms of interaction require the marriage of planning intentionality and effective instructional design.
LIBRARY UPDATE:
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
The library continues to fulfill some Interlibrary Loan requests digitally. Delivery of print materials is currently not available due to the closure of many libraries, including our own. Millions of electronic books are temporarily viewable in HathiTrust due to its Emergency Temporary Access Service (HT ETAS).
LIBRARY UPDATE:
VIRTUAL OFFICE HOURS
The Library is offering a recurring office hour via Zoom during the month of June. Drop in anytime Monday to Friday from 11am to noon to ask your questions about using the library remotely.
