  • Discovering Inclusion Training - Now Available ONLINE Discovering Inclusion is an introductory workshop for staff with little or no previous knowledge about children and youth with disabilities and inclusion. It includes an introduction to various types of disabilities, identifying the benefits of inclusion for all, using People First Language and respectful etiquette, and the characteristics of an inclusive program. There is also an opportunity to explore personal beliefs and values.

Extended to exceptional employees of Trust-funded programs or initiatives, this honor is given to individuals who serve as an inspiration to their colleagues; provide direct service to children and families as their primary duty; and perform their work in a way that exemplifies that the human element makes a genuine difference in the lives of others. (Nominees may not be a manager or executive director.) Winners will be publicly announced and recognized, and comprise the pool from which we'll select the recipient of the 2019 Champions for Children Excellence Award for Direct Service to Children and Families! It provides an overview to the Program Metrics 1-4 visits currently taking place, and assists providers in understanding how to prepare for and what to expect during the visit. Project RISE: SEL Outcome Assessment Trainings
Project RISE has released three online Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Outcome Assessment trainings, which are available to all Trust-funded youth development providers:

  • Child Trends Survey SEL Outcome Assessment Grades K-5
  • PYDI SEL Outcome Assessment Grades 6-12
  • YAPS SEL Outcome Assessment Grades 6-12

Injury Prevention Trainings
All Trust-funded providers are required to participate in childhood injury prevention capacity-building efforts facilitated by the Public Health Trust's Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami. Remaining trainings for October are listed below; visit The Children's Trust community calendar for full descriptions and registration information. Unless otherwise noted, all trainings take place at the University of Miami Mailman Center, located at 1601 NW 12th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.

Lunch & Learn Workshop: Emotional Literacy
Triumph Steps announces an emotional literacy lunch and learn designed to teach providers how to give the children the tools they need to minimize limiting thoughts and overcome depression, anxiety, fear and much more. Grant Opportunities
New Grant Opportunities at The Trust! *
The Children's Trust has released the following five separate grant opportunities:

  • Early Intervention Summer Camp Full-day summer programs for children ages birth to 5 years (prior to kindergarten entry) with developmental delays or disabilities. Bidders' conference and application training to be held on Monday, October 29, 1-4:30 p.m.
  • Universal Parenting Education Parenting workshops and educational or public health events that foster effective parenting strategies to support child development. Bidders' conference and application training to be held on Monday, October 29, 1-4:30 p.m.
  • Reading Enhancement Services Differentiated literacy intervention (DLI) services in the summer for rising kindergarten, rising first-grade and rising second-grade children. Bidders' conference and application training to be held on Monday, October 29, 1-4:30 p.m.
  • Innovation Fund Innovative ideas and program designs that address existing community needs and have not previously been implemented in our community. Bidders' conference and application training to be held on Wednesday, October 31, 1-3:30 p.m.
  • Small Community-Based Organizations (CBO) Capacity Building Capacity-building supports for child- and family-serving small CBOs in Miami-Dade County. Bidders' conference and application training to be held on Tuesday, October 30, 1:30-5 p.m.

Early Learning Career Center Scholarships
The Early Learning Career Center, funded by The Children's Trust, is offering professional development scholarships to early childhood educators in Miami-Dade County to improve knowledge, skills, classroom practices and ultimately the quality of care offered to our children. Community Outreach Specialist
Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center seeks a community outreach specialist to liaison with community affiliates and participants to motivate partnership, enrollment, extend reach and be a face of the organization. Must possess minimum bachelor's degree in a social services field or high school diploma with at least two years' experience in social services; and bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency. Helpline Counselor - Part-Time
Jewish Community Services of South Florida seeks a part-time helpline crisis counselor to provide information, referrals, crisis counseling and suicide intervention to callers upon completion of a thorough assessment and identification of most presenting needs.   • Counselor - Key West * To provide Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) for individuals and families. Responsibilities include maintaining proper files and records and completing all required documentation; assisting in referrals and intake at site locations; and assisting with case management needs including referrals to outside resources. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and be a state-licensed counselor.
  • Residential Living Assistant * To be responsible for daily supervision to minors. Must demonstrate sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and possess high school diploma or GED, minimum one year experience working with children/adolescents in a social services setting, and bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) fluency.   • Program Evaluation Specialist To provide evaluation to multiple 21st CCLC programs in the southern tricounty area. Must possess minimum bachelor’s degree in education research, evaluation, psychology, statistics, social policy, sociology, psychometrics or other related discipline; previous experience with program evaluation; knowledge of after-school and summer programs; and proficiency in Excel and SPSS.
  • Research Analyst To assist in assessing the implementation and impact of a variety of projects focused on education, health and other social services.   • Health Specialist To ensure its Early Head Start (EHS) program adheres to EHS performance standards, and state and local requirements regarding health services. Responsibilities include working with EHS-CCP partners to coordinate health services, providing technical assistance to partner staff as needed and providing health training.   • Early Head Start Teacher Associates/Caregivers * To be responsible for planning and implementing daily learning activities, nurturing students and managing and maintaining the Early Head Start classroom and its equipment and supplies; establishing and maintaining supportive relationships with infants, toddlers and parents; and implementing developmentally appropriate routines and curriculum for infants and toddlers.   • Maintenance Worker/Custodian - Miami Gardens Center * To be responsible for maintaining cleanliness of childcare facility and ensuring that all equipment, grounds and buildings are properly maintained, secured and operational. Duties include emptying trash cans, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms and lunch rooms; keeping supplies stocked; changing light bulbs; and disinfecting children zones with harm-free products. High school diploma/GED preferred, supplemented by one year experience in general maintenance work.
