When analyzing and optimizing a rod pumping well there are three simple step which can be followed:
  1. Match the well displacement to the inflow.
  2. Install a POC (Pump Off Controller) to prevent and minimize the effects of fluid pound, pump off and gas pound.
  3. Use a host system or analysis system to connect to the POC for remote monitoring/control and dynamometer card analysis.

Following these steps will move your operations from reactive to proactive mode and allows your field personnel to operate by exception focusing on issues and not just routine monitoring.

When you are running in reactive mode, you maybe missing opportunities to nip issues early to avoid NPT (non-productive t and even lower operating cost. With proactive operators, you will ultimately extend the life of equipment and lower failure rates by reducing run-time and possibly increase production. With oil and & gas margins tight, the ultimate goal has to be running more efficiently while maintaining and increasing production.
