Orange County Board of County Commissioners selects design firm for the Convention Center’s North-South Building Expansion

The Orange County Government Board of County Commissioners has authorized its staff to begin contract negotiations with Populous + C.T. Hsu, a Joint Venture, to provide architectural and engineering design services for the Orange County Convention Center’s North-South Building expansion.

Appointment of Convention Center Acting Executive Director

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings has appointed Mr. David Ingram as the Acting Executive Director of the Orange County Convention Center effective July 22, 2019.  Mr. Ingram will serve as the Acting Executive Director until Mayor Demings appoints a permanent Executive Director. 

Mr. Jessie Allen’s last day as Interim Executive Director at the OCCC was July 19, 2019. 

Universal Orlando Resort Announces New Theme Park 
Universal Orlando Resort announced on Aug. 1 that something epic is coming. A new, fourth theme park to be called Universal’s Epic Universe will take guests on a journey where beloved stories expand into vibrant lands – and where that journey is as much a part of the adventure as the ultimate destination. 

InfoComm Announces 2019 Registered Attendee Increase at Convention Center   
Officials from AVIXA - InfoComm 2019, Orange County Government and the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) have announced official attendance figures with 44,129 registered guests visiting The Center of Hospitality in Orlando, Florida during June 12-14, 2019.

AAU Junior National Volleyball Welcomes Thousands 
The 46th Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior National Volleyball Championships, hosted at the Orange County Convention Center, welcomed 45,000 participants and 2,805 teams from around the world on June 16-28, 2019. The 12-day event boasted an attendance of more than 110,000 guests and is recognized as the world’s largest volleyball event and competition.

Leaders Join the 120th Veterans Of Foreign Wars National Convention
Congresswoman Val Demings, who represents Florida's 10th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, provided remarks at the joint opening ceremony of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States and its Auxiliary 120th VFW National Convention, which convened at the Orange County Convention Center on July 21 through July 24.

I nternational Association of Exhibitions & Events

The OCCC recently supported Exhibitions Day on Capitol Hill sponsored by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events. Over 100 industry members along with Senior Sales Manager Lisa Williams and Deputy Director Yulita Osuba, IAEE board member, traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for the success of this important economic sector. They met with federal legislators and other policy leaders to discuss important issues that impact the expositions industry which generates $47.7 billion in economic impact on average and nearly 52,000 incremental U.S. jobs each year.
