Convention Center News and Views
June 2021
Greetings,

The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) continues to host safe live events and is doing Business Better than Usual, as an influx of relocated and returning shows make their way to Orlando in the coming months. June 2021 was a blockbuster month for the OCCC marking a record-breaking comeback for our Center. Collectively, the Center of Hospitality welcomed 14 events in June with more than 167,000 attendees for nearly $240 million in economic impact.

For the first time, the OCCC welcomed Vision Expo East to Orlando from June 2-5, 2021. For 35 years, Vision Expo East has been the premier event for ophthalmic professionals, offering an event where eye care meets eyewear and education, fashion and innovation mingle. Excited for this 2021 relocation, the Center of Hospitality rolled out the red carpet for these attendees and exhibitors visiting Orlando.

Following Vision Expo, the Center once again hosted the North American Veterinary Community’s (NAVC) 38th annual Veterinary Meeting & Expo (VMX). Featuring a hybrid meeting with virtual component, show organizers welcomed nearly 7,700 in-person veterinary professionals for an estimated $19.8 million of economic impact.

During this time, the Center also hosted Auto Glass Week™ (AGW), the only worldwide event designed specifically for the auto glass original equipment and aftermarket, repair and replacement industries. Welcoming 1,500 attendees to the OCCC from June 7-9, 2021, the power-packed event generated an estimated $3.9 million in economic impact.

To round out the month, the OCCC welcomed its largest event to date – the Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) 48th Annual Junior National Volleyball Championships. Featuring more than 135,000 attendees across 12 days of competition, with 3,445 registered teams and 171 courts across both the North-South and the West Buildings, this massive sporting event was the largest event nationally in the convention industry since the pandemic. From June 18-29, 2021, the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships created an estimated economic impact of $173.2 million for the region.

Last month, we began the rollout of our new campaign Business Better than Usual featuring client testimonials from some of our major events this year. Highlighting our expertise in hosting safe in-person events, the OCCC is leading the way in this new era for tradeshows and conventions.

Thanks to the trust and confidence of our legacy and first-time clients, coupled with our dedication to excellence, we are showing the industry how the OCCC is doing Business Better Than Usual – positioning us for a strong 2021.
