Greetings,
On behalf of the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your ongoing support as we continue to do Business Better than Usual. We remain committed to working with our clients and partners to ensure the safety of all guests and attendees.
In September, we wrapped up our 20-21 fiscal year by successfully hosting 117 events with approximately 712,000 attendees, creating an estimated $1 billion in economic impact for the community. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the year, the OCCC continued to aggressively sell the center while upholding all sanitary and infection prevention protocols of our GBAC STAR Accreditation, as well as our Recovery and Resiliency Guidelines and pioneering collaboration with Orlando Health. We have brought back live events safely to Orlando and continue to be a model in the conventions industry on how to safely host conventions, trade shows and sporting events.
As we kick-off our new fiscal year, I am excited for what the next few months will bring. The Center is scheduled to welcome 132 events, with approximately 1.4 million attendees and an estimated $2.6 billion in economic impact this fiscal year. We have already started strong by welcoming back some of our biggest conventions of the year!
From Oct. 27-29, we hosted Infocomm 2021, the world’s leading audiovisual trade show and conference, with 7,335 estimated attendees, and an economic impact of $18.8 million. Just a few weeks ago, the OCCC welcomed back our neighbors with the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo. From Nov. 16-19, the OCCC hosted more than 28,000 international amusement park and attractions industry professionals, creating an estimated economic impact of $79.6 million.
I am optimistic and eager to see what the future holds at the OCCC. The last two years have taught us the importance of Mayor Jerry L. Demings core values for our region – innovation, collaboration and inclusion. The OCCC led the industry by releasing innovative guidelines and strategies to safely host events through regional collaboration that included best practices that have evolved into standard practices across the hospitality, tourism and convention industry.
Together, the OCCC will continue to uphold the standards of excellence and service that the Center of Hospitality is recognized for in our industry. I am both grateful and thankful to have the confidence and trust of our clients and cannot wait to welcome back our long-time legacy shows and our new customers that have chosen the OCCC as their home.
