Focus on financial resiliency
UBCM president Brian Frenkel called upon the province to work with BC local governments to strengthen the system for local government finance during an interview before the membership today. Frenkel made the comments in reference to the recommendations of the Select Committee on Local Government Finance, whose report forms the basis of policy paper to the UBCM Convention. Read more

Funding for child care now available
The Childcare BC New Spaces Fund, the Province’s main space creation program, is now accepting applications for child care projects. Up to $3 million in funding is available per project. This year, the focus is on supporting child care projects that are run by public-sector and non-profit partners that will create child care centres that remain in communities for the long-term. Local governments are encouraged to apply for funding.
New Emergency Preparedness funding intake
A new round of funding intakes for three Community Emergency Preparedness Fund streams have been announced for the winter of 2021/2022. Minister of Municipal Affairs, Josie Osborne, announced new funding intakes during UBCM Convention. Read more
