UBCM has confirmed the panelists for a workshop on B.C.’s extreme heat event of 2021. Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, will be joined by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry; BCCDC’s Scientific Director of Environmental Health Services Dr. Sarah Henderson; meteorologist & science reporter Johanna Wagstaffe; Councillor Patrick Johnstone (New Westminster) and Mayor Barbara Roden (Ashcroft) to explore what has been learned in response to the 2021 heat dome. Cabinet town hall meetings returning to Convention
Town hall meetings with provincial Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are back on the agenda for our 2021 Convention. B.C.’s Executive Council will host three concurrent sessions during the annual meetings to explore themes of community resiliency, economic recovery and regional growth planning. Each session will conclude with a period for questions from delegates. Read more

MOU on First Nations Negotiations & Indigenous Initiatives
UBCM will be renewing its MOU with the Province with regard to Engagement on First Nations Negotiations and other Indigenous Initiatives as part of the Convention plenary session to be held September 14 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. This is a longstanding MOU, most recently renewed in 2018, that supports sharing of information between the Province, local governments and UBCM on wide ranging initiatives and agreements related to First Nations and Indigenous peoples.
Asset Management Planning Intake Reminder
The second intake of the 2021 Asset Management Planning program has an upcoming deadline of September 24, 2021. This program offers matching grants of up to $15,000 to assist local governments in delivering sustainable services by extending and deepening asset management practices. UBCM Group Benefits Annual Renewal
UBCM Group Benefits Plan annual renewal negotiations with Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) have now completed and renewal letters will be sent out to participating plan members this week. Premium rates will take effect on October 1, 2021. Read more
