Plans for adding a $17 million convention center in Downtown Muskegon are moving along.

This week, officials announced more details and renderings of the convention center, a partnership between the county, city and Parkland Properties of Michigan. The design is intended to compliment the recently renovated LC Walker Arena, and the expansive waterfront. The center and rebranded hotel will feature more than 10,000 square feet of banquet facilities, accelerating growth for Muskegon's year-round tourism industry.

The public is invited to preview the full plans on Tuesday, October 30, 5:30pm at the LC Walker Arena.

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County is kick starting careers through the use of children's savings accounts.

The program began this year, and intends to provide every kindergartner in Muskegon County schools (public and private) with a $50 savings account. As the child grows, families are encouraged to make deposits, and students can earn their own deposits, while learning about financial literacy.

The Community Foundation believes "every penny counts toward building dreams and that "KickStart to Career" will foster hope and opportunity for our kids’ future."
