EXPERT PANEL ESTABLISHED FOR COOK INLET PIPELINES PROJECT
Cook Inlet pipelines are about to get a close look from a new expert panel charged with ensuring their integrity. Five experts have been selected by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and CIRCAC to provide recommendations on pipeline integrity and safety in Cook Inlet, where more than 200 miles of pipeline move oil, gas, and related products between offshore platforms and onshore facilities. IN A MOVE SUPPORTED BY CIRCAC, RCA APPROVES DECOMMISSIONING OF DRIFT RIVER OIL TERMINAL
The Regulatory Commission of Alaska has approved Cook Inlet Pipe Line Co.’s request to be allowed to decommission the Drift River oil terminal on the west coast of Cook Inlet (photo at right). The terminal has in the past been used to load oil from oil fields on the west side of the inlet onto tankers, for movement to the Nikiski oil refinery on the Kenai Peninsula. However, last year Hilcorp Alaska completed a project involving the conversion of a gas line under the inlet for the movement of oil west to east to Nikiski. That has rendered the Drift River terminal obsolete. Cook Inlet Pipe Line is a Hilcorp subsidiary. Read the full story as reported by The Petroleum News .

CIRCAC's next Annual and Regular Board of Directors meeting is in Kenai on April 5. The agenda includes presentations carried over from the November 30th Board meeting which was interrupted by the 7.1 earthquake in Anchorage, including updates on the Pipeline Infrastructure Risk Assessment, CIRCAC's 2018 field work and the Cross Inlet Pipeline.
