COOK INLET
Regional Citizens Advisory Council

Representing citizens in promoting environmentally safe marine transportation and oil facility operations in Cook Inlet since 1990.
Barge 141 Update
Maintaining safety and preparedness in Cook Inlet takes vigilance and, more importantly, communication. The recent grounding of CISPRI Barge 141 demonstrates the quality of that communication in Cook Inlet between partners in industry, government and public stakeholders.

Strong winds overnight on September 29th pulled the 257 ft. response vessel (Barge 141), owned and operated by Cook Inlet Spill Prevention and Response, Inc (CISPRI) from its moorings just offshore from the Offshore Systems Kenai (OSK) dock in Nikiski.
CIRCAC Staffing Changes
As we near the end of 2020, CIRCAC administrative staff are taking on some new roles. Our current Administrative Assistant, Maddie Jamora, will be moving into her new position as Director of Administration. Jerry Rombach, our Director since 2011, will move into a part-time role focusing on special projects come the new year.

The Administration office is where many parts of the organization come together. Behind the scenes and perhaps most importantly, admin staff coordinates and heads CIRCAC’s annual recertification application with the U.S. Coast Guard.

December Council meeting
Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council will hold its quarterly meeting on Dec. 4th. This end of the year meeting is typically held in Anchorage. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and precautions, the meeting will be held remotely via video conference.

For information about how to participate in the meeting, contact Director of Public Outreach, Shaylon Cochran at shayloncochran@circac.org
BOEM launches new citizen science app

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is enlisting citizen help for identifying and documenting marine megafauna.

The department has developed a new mobile app, called Ocean Alert, that will help BOEM plan offshore energy and mineral development “in ways that lessen the potential impacts to species such as sea turtles, sharks and whales and their habitats.”
