ADEC accepting comments on public scoping of Alaska's oil spill regulations and statutes
Alaskans have until March 16, 2020 to weigh in regarding the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation's (ADEC) public scoping of Alaska's oil spill prevention regulations and statutes. Specifically, ADEC wants to know whether we support the regulations and statutes as currently written.

It's important that ADEC hears from as many Alaskans as possible on this subject. Here's where to comment:
Pressures are mounting on Alaska’s oil spill prevention and response system
After nearly 30 years without a significant oil spill in Alaska’s waters, it’s tempting to think that we can relax our vigilance. But we cannot. At no time since the Exxon Valdez has there been so many pressures on oil spill prevention and response.

In October, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) announced its intention to streamline oil spill contingency plan regulations and statutes to alleviate a perceived burden to industry and show Alaska is open for business.
CIRCAC welcomes new Director of Public Outreach
We're pleased to welcome Shaylon Cochran to the CIRCAC team!

Shaylon joined CIRCAC in February following a decade working in broadcast journalism, most recently at KDLL public radio in Kenai, where he reported extensively on Cook Inlet's oil and gas industry.

He has big shoes to fill. For the last eight years, Lynda Giguere has done an outstanding job telling our story and representing CIRCAC at functions all over the country. We will wish her the best in a well-deserved retirement. Cheers, Lynda!
CIRCAC scholarship deadline
The deadline to apply for CIRCAC’s two $2,500 scholarships is approaching.

Our scholarship program, now in its sixth year, has given more than $25,000 to area students pursuing post-secondary educations in marine and environmental safety and sciences.

Past recipients have gone on to study ocean science, environmental chemistry, sustainable technologies and more.
