Please mark your calendars to dine out on Tuesday, June 21! We're cookin' up the perfect "Recipe for Success" for our students - and your participation in Dine Out For Kids is a key ingredient! We've got some of the best restaurants in town lined up to support our event - please show YOUR support for them and our students by dining at one or more of these participating restaurants on June 21.

A big shout-out to our title sponsor, Bank of America, and sponsors HMS Host, Piedmont Natural Gas, The Charlotte Observer, and the Greater Charlotte Hospitality and Tourism Alliance for supporting our 17th annual Dine Out For Kids.  See you on June 21!

#CapsOff! Celebrating Our CIS Graduates
Zorriah Cole
Tyrajah Legions
We're so proud of our graduating seniors! More than 550 CIS seniors will be graduating from high school next week, including Zorriah Cole of South Mecklenburg High School and Tyrajah "TJ" Legions of East Mecklenburg. Both have overcome adversity and challenging personal situations to rise above and keep their focus on school and the future. And both are certain that, without Communities In Schools, it is very likely they wouldn't be walking across the graduation stage next week with their classmates. Congratulations to Zorriah, TJ, and ALL of our amazing CIS graduates! #CapsOff!

CIS receives Grant from Women's Impact Fund
Great news! CIS-Charlotte is a first-time recipient of a grant from the Women's Impact Fund! The $70,000 grant (over two years) will support our immigrant services program. Congrats to Sardis Presbyterian Church
Sardis volunteers with Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Homer, the Charlotte Knights' mascot.
Congratulations to Sardis Presbyterian Church for receiving a N.C. Governor's Volunteer Service Award for their support of CIS and Rama Road Elementary School! Sardis Presbyterian has volunteered at Rama Road for six years, providing reading and lunch buddies, tutors, mentors and many other support services. The congregation has even started its own fundraising program, "Planting Seeds of Hope," which helps fund family nights at the school, home libraries for the children, and afterschool tutoring programs. No matter the need, Sardis volunteers are always there to show love and understanding for students at Rama Road. CIS is so grateful for the church's ongoing support!

End-of-Year Programs Celebrate Student Achievement
CIS loves to recognize those students who have worked particularly hard to improve their academics, school attendance or citizenship, and each of our program teams has its unique end-of-year awards event to celebrate their students' accomplishments. Congratulations to these "best of the best" students - we are proud of you!

Corners Society Gala raises $55K for CIS
CIS is grateful to The Corners Society, a local nonprofit dedicated to honoring the City of Charlotte through philanthropic, civic, and charitable action. The men's group raises funds and provides direct volunteer support for Charlotte charities. The group selected CIS and specifically, male students in West Charlotte High School's L.I.F.T. Academy, as one of their key projects in 2015. The Corners Society provided mentoring and entrepreneurial/business workshops and experiences for the teens - everything from laser tag to how to create a business plan! In addition, CIS was the beneficiary of $55,000 raised from The Corners Society's annual gala in February.

"Tees For Tuition" Scholarship
Many thanks to employees at LPL Financial, including CIS board member Andy Kalbaugh, for again hosting the "Tees for Tuition" Golf Tournament with proceeds providing a full tuition college scholarship for a deserving CIS senior at Garinger High School. This year marks the third year of the event, and the third CIS senior to receive the scholarship. This year's recipient is Kenia Guardado. She is the first in her family to complete high school and pursue a college degree, and her goal is to become a registered nurse. Thank you to our friends at LPL for making Kenia's and the two previous scholarship winners' dreams of college possible!
