A warm welcome home to Barry Brockway, the original face behind JAX Mechanical

Big Plans for the Future of Mechanical
a note from Barry Brockway...
I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome that I have received since coming onboard as the Vice President of JAX Mechanical. Mark spoke highly of the current JAX Mechanical team prior to my arrival, and his praise has been justified in what I have experienced thus far throughout the organization.

COVID-19 took a bite out of our sails after a fast start in 2020, and we have experienced some changes within the organization, but the arrow is pointing straight up as we navigate the new way of doing business with temperature checks and masks for everyone!

My goal each day is to do a better job than the day before, and to serve the people that I represent better each day. I believe in the team concept and every person has a strength that is vital to our mission. Our vision as we finish 2020 strong is to get more projects with start dates this year, in order to meet the goals set in the beginning of the year.

Great companies adapt to the changes that surround them and make necessary adjustments to maintain a position of strength. Our team is strong and we need to be focused on making ourselves stronger by being a company that is talked about favorably on every job site we work. Just remember, each day you represent our company and your actions help us in marketing our value to our customers. Our culture is about doing what is right every time and treating everyone with the respect they deserve. Thank you for your dedication and your commitment, and I truly look forward to working with every one of you.

Dana joined Restaurant HVAC in July, 1990. At that time, the RHVACS office workforce consisted of Dana's two brothers, Bobby and Gary, as well as Gary’s wife, Evelyn. In a transition period, the team requested Dana run the construction department.

As a requirement, Gary and Bobby made Dana undergo a great deal of training before he could run the construction department. Initially, he worked in the field with John Cribbs, the main installer who had been with RHVACS since its inception. After 8 months in the field, Dana worked in the office with Gary and learned how to properly execute job take-offs, run field crews and communicate with customers. Ever since, he has managed the construction department for RHVACS.
Gary passed away in July, of 2011. Bobby, Evelyn, and Dana divided his duties, in order to continue operations. Since Bobby's retirement in 2019, Dana has assumed the role of General Manager for RHVACS.

The all new JAX Headquarters is nearing completion. The site features two phases: Phase I (completed in December), the 5,000-square-foot building that will house our Mechanical Service Department, and Phase II, a 15,000-square-foot, two-story headquarters building along Ninth Street. Construction has remained “pretty much on schedule,” despite the pandemic.

“A couple of things slowed us down because of COVID, mainly someone was tested where we got the structural steel so we had to wait a couple of days while they checked on the manufacturer…but other than that, things have gone really well,” President, Mark Lowery, said. “The outside will be finished in early August, so then we’ll get into the interior finishes, so we’re looking good on our schedule.”

Fashioned after an historic lighthouse in Curacao, the new building will feature a lighthouse in the center for a modern twist. The interior will have a very industrial look with a more collaborative space. “It’s going to be a good work environment. We’re all working remotely now, and it will be a bit different when we move in with social distancing and all, but I want to encourage collaboration so I’m looking forward to getting in there and working together,” says Mark.
You've probably already heard about how much we believe in our JAX Family, in the quality of our people, their values and hard work that help make our company great. But you don't have to take our word for it, check in here for the latest on what people are saying about us.

I recently had the pleasure of working with JAX on a project in Mooresville, North Carolina. We were highly satisfied with the JAX Team's performance, especially the constant communication and meeting schedules from the office staff to the field personnel.
– AJ, Project Manager

The 2020 Hurricane Season is now upon us and weather forecasters are predicting a very active season for the Atlantic. Planning for hurricanes and other potential disasters can be stressful, and because the 2020 hurricane season comes during the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it may be especially so.

Public health and emergency response professionals have advice to help you safely prepare, evacuate, and shelter for severe storms while protecting yourself and others from COVID-19. Here are some tips to help you and your family stay safe during hurricane season this year. Start now to avoid the stress and worry later.

  • Develop an evacuation plan
  • Assemble disaster supplies
  • Get an insurance check up
  • Strengthen your home
  • Help your neighbors
  • Complete a written plan

Make sure you have everything you’ll need to get in touch with your family either through cellular phones or email.
Be equipped to tend to any current or unexpected medical conditions your family may have. CRITICAL
Place any important documents in a waterproof container to help keep them dry and easily accessible.
Small items like matches, flashlights, a multi-purpose tool, and a whistle can make a huge difference for your family while weathering the storm.
Have at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and water for your family. Remember to pack anything specific to your family’s needs.
Practicing good hygiene can stop the spread of bacteria and infectious disease.
Protect yourself by packing warm clothes and blankets to prevent hypothermia. Don’t forget protective footwear and gloves too.
You may be away from your home for an extended period and your property may be damaged. Grab any items that are irreplaceable or may provide comfort to your family, especially your children.Ask yourself, “What would I need for myself and my family if a hurricane struck?” Add any of these specific items to your Hurricane Preparedness Checklist.

Returning to School During COVID-19
Returning to school during the COVID-19 pandemic may not feel like normal – at least for a while. But having safety plans – and making sure schools have the resources needed to follow them – can help protect students, teachers, staff, and families.
Here are some quick tips for the start of the new school year:
  • Model the behavior expected of your child and talk through the new expectations/rules
  • Check daily for signs of illness. If your child has a fever of 100.4 or higher they should not go to school. Make sure your child does not have a sore throat or other signs of illness, like a cough, diarrhea, severe headache, vomiting, or body aches.
  • Review proper hand washing techniques
  • Develop daily routines before and after school—for example, things to pack for school in the morning (like hand sanitizer and an additional (back up) cloth face covering) and things to do when you return home (like washing hands immediately and washing worn cloth face coverings).
  • Talk to your child about precautions to take at school. Children may be advised to:
  • Wash and sanitize their hands more often.
  • Keep physical distance from other students.
  • Wear a cloth face covering.
  • Avoid sharing objects with other students, including water bottles, devices, writing instruments, and books.
  • Use hand sanitizer (that contains at least 60% alcohol.)
  • Monitor how they feel and tell an adult if they are not feeling well.
