Sean
Karpf

Assistant Project Manager
What do you hope to learn/experience in the position? I hope to learn as much as I can about the industry and gain experience so I can transition into a project management role.
Where did you work before this and what was your position? I worked for the Jacksonville Jaguars as a strength and conditioning coach before coming to JAX Refrigeration. I am good friends with Mark Lowery. He recognized my hard work ethic and thought I would be a valuable asset to the team.
What sort of duties did you have? Will they translate to your new role? My last job with the Jaguars will not translate but I was a squad leader in the Army before my job with Jaguars. Prior to that I was an electrician.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to volunteer for non-profits and go camping with my family.
Tell us a little bit about your personal life (family, favorite hobbies & sports teams, etc.) I have been married for 16 years to my wife Brandy and we have a 15 year old daughter named Marissa and a 13 year old son named Zak. I love watching sports and taking my boat out fishing.
Are there any special or unique details about yourself you’d like to share? I am a below-knee amputee. I lost my left leg from stepping on an IED on my second deployment to Afghanistan.
Jonathan Deautriell

Assistant Project Manager
What do you hope to learn/experience in the position? As an Assistant Project Manager, I hope to develop process management, project planning, risk management, and technical skills. I hope to experience an array of projects with varying scopes through which I will further refine my leadership and communication skills. I look forward to develop further as a professional within a team that is dedicated to producing quality solutions.
Where did you work before this and what was your position? Prior to JAX Refrigeration, I worked at R.W. Sullivan in Boston, Massachusetts as an intern. Additionally, I worked for a year at APR Energy as an Associate Director of the Lead Development Team.
What sort of duties did you have? Will they translate to your new role? During my time at R.W. Sullivan, I was tasked with developing electrical system designs for commercial and industrial buildings. Using AutoCad and Revit, I worked as part of a team to create construction documents. I believe my previous exposure to system design will translate well into my role at JAX Refrigeration where I will develop the managerial skill sets needed for the successful completion of projects incorporating refrigeration and HVAC systems.
How did you get into the HVAC industry? While completing my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering, I fell in love with thermo sciences. I knew I wanted to go into an industry that utilized these principles. Working as an electrical intern at an MEP firm, constantly looking at coordination drawings from the HVAC department, I discovered my desire to work within the HVAC industry.
What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time I like to work out, play sports, listen to music, and read.
Tell us a little bit about your personal life (family, favorite hobbies & sports teams, etc.) I grew up in Pembroke Pines, Florida, just outside the Miami area. I am a die hard Dolphins, University of Miami, and Heat fan. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, and I grew up playing everything except hockey with my dad. I have one younger sister who is getting a masters degree in accounting, following in the footsteps of my mother. Outside of your typical sports, I really enjoy wakeboarding and snowboarding, but the latter is pretty tough to pursue in Florida. I also enjoy practicing Krav Maga and reading for self-improvement.
Are there any special or unique details about yourself you’d like to share? I played Division 1 tennis at the University of North Florida where I played at number 2 doubles (All Conference) and number 5 singles (All Conference). I was part of the first UNF team to ever win a conference championship and get an NCAA tournament bid.
Thomas
Benton

Project
Coordinator
What do you hope to learn/experience in the position?
I would like to learn as much as I can about the industry and become a valuable asset to JAX, eventually advancing to a role as project manager.
Where did you work before this and what was your position?
Prior to working for JAX Refrigeration I worked for Cathedral Residences
as a Maintenance Supervisor. Though it's a step away from HVAC the opportunity provided experience for a future leadership position.
What sort of duties did you have? Will they translate to your new role? I supervised 3 technicians, managed inventory, had the responsibility of ordering and purchasing.
Prior to my time at Cathedral Residences, I was in property management and worked as an HVAC systems management supervisor.
How did you get into the HVAC industry?
It's actually a funny story! Although I'm a proud U.S. citizen, I was born in Spain. Years ago, I was employed as a laborer on base. During a restructuring at the contracting firm where I was employed, I was let go after being mistakenly determined an illegal alien. Shortly thereafter, I was motivated to respond to an HVAC television advertisement and found a home in the HVAC Industry.
What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy all things computer-related, especially playing video games.
Tell us a little bit about your personal life (family, favorite hobbies & sports teams, etc.) I have lived in the Jacksonville area since 1992. My fiancee and I have been happily engaged for several years.
Are there any special or unique details about yourself you’d like to share? I was born in Spain and speak Spanish fluently.
Cory
Zylstra

Intern
What do you hope to learn/experience in the position? Since my position with JAX is as an intern I hope to gain specific job-related experience that will allow me to advance in the industry.
Where did you work before this and what was your position? I worked at Terminal Investment Corporation TICO as a Lead Service Technician.
What sort of duties did you have? Will they translate to your new role? My duties included dispatching and maintaining equipment.
I have limited knowledge in the HVAC industry but I am excited to gain experience and learn as I go.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to fish, hunt, hang out with friends and be outdoors. I enjoy having an active lifestyle.
Tell us a little bit about your personal life (family, favorite hobbies & sports teams, etc.) I grew up on a Dairy farm, I have 3 brothers, I enjoy cooking, and watching/playing all sports.

The Office?

The beloved Oscar Nuñez made a Cameo appearance to wish JAX Happy Holidays from his office to ours. Thanks for the shout-out, Oscar!
Taylor "Tator/Opie" O'Brien joined the #JAXFamily in October of 2016 as a welder for our Refrigeration Department. This funny guy says if he wasn't a welder he would definitely be a stand-up comedian. As a way to bust out of his 2-stoplight town, Taylor found a career in the Refrigeration Industry to make enough money to travel and live a comfortable life.
Taylor enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and brothers and for fun, he visits the beach or relaxes at home with family. Home, for Taylor, is where the heart is. He likes to be wherever the people he cares most about are. He has always wanted to visit Ireland and dreams of owning a '66 Mustang. He loves a great Thanksgiving meal, scary movies, and the Georgia Bulldogs. If Taylor could dine with anyone, he'd choose his father's dad. Although he died when Taylor was only 5 years old, he knows he would be proud of the man he's become, and they would share stories of hard work and about the time his grandfather spent working on the tobacco farm.
Thanks for sharing, Taylor. It's been fun getting to know more about you!
You've probably already heard about how much we believe in our JAX Family, in the quality of our people, their values and hard work that help make our company great. But you don't have to take our word for it, check in here for the latest on what people are saying about us.

“I have done many projects with RHVACS and have known

more than restaurant work. They are one of the best subcontractors
out there in my experience.”

During this unprecedented societal shutdown due to COVID-19, many individuals are working from home. Many commercial buildings have either been closed down or are operating with a limited number of occupants. Consequently, an increasing number of HVAC systems in those buildings are likely operating on a reduced schedule or have been turned off completely.

However, this does not mean that routine maintenance on HVAC equipment should be put off until occupants return to the building. Indeed, this is a good time for JAX Mechanical Service to remind our customers to take the opportunity to make repairs or upgrade their systems, or at a minimum, to keep up with the regularly scheduled maintenance.

We suggest that now is the time to take the opportunity to go through and clean your systems and get them ready for occupants. Otherwise (if the systems are not running) when then they are turned back on, there will be great deal of stress on the equipment, which could lead to failures. We understand and are prepared to assist if that should happen to you.
For more information on HVAC maintenance and operation recommendations during the Covid-19 shutdown Call JAX Mechanical Service @ (904)-435-9010.
