The Cold Storage Construction
Market is Heating Up!

According to experts and multiple media sources, Refrigerated storage is more in demand than ever, which is fueling a surge in the construction of refrigerated warehouses with automation and other features designed for flexibility. An article by Bisnow, “The Cold Storage Market is Maturing Beyond a Niche Industry,” stated, “The outbreak of the coronavirus has accelerated America's growing dependence on industrial real estate, and cold storage is among the fastest-growing parts of the sector.

Following a brief slow down during COVID, JAX Refrigeration has been quite busy of late, working closely with a number of industry leaders to provide innovative design, quality construction, and industry-leading responsiveness, allowing our valued clients to keep up with demand.

The big driver is the expansion of online grocery shopping, which doubled its share during the pandemic. Many of the new warehouses will be built with robotics and other aspects that will help shift among channels for both receiving and shipping, enabling them to better handle changes in demand between retail and foodservice. Offering the latest innovation in design and design-build services, all JAX departments work together to seamlessly ensure that our Customers’ projects are executed smoothly, from concept to installation. JAX has proven to be the key to transitioning Cold Storage Facility concepts to life, with a focus on innovation, environmental impact, sustainability, life-cycle costs, and potential future expansion.

Needless to say, JAX Refrigeration is in the right place at the right time, with the right TEAM to step up and deliver impressive results for our valued customers. 2021 will be a great year for JAX, and our Industry.

Happy Retirement, Vic Rupert!
Vic Rupert started working with JAX Refrigeration on February 5, 2016. He is a Supply Chain Coordinator for our Parts Department, and he will be retiring at the end of June. Before he goes, we thought we'd take a moment to give him the employee spotlight.

Originally hailing from western New York, Vic considers the gulf coast of Alabama truly home. When he's not working, he enjoys fishing, traveling, listening to music, and exploring the world of genealogy. He spends his free time with his wife, 4 daughters and 7 grandchildren. Dreaming of traveling, Vic can't wait to return to Italy and once everything opens back up, he's headed to Rome! His favorite holiday is Christmas, loves the movie, Casablanca and roots for the University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE!). He used to dream of driving a Lamborghini but now he settles for a car that gets him from point A to point B.

After retiring from the Navy, he had a background in various disciplines and chose to put his supply chain experience to use in the refrigeration industry. Having served in the military for 28 years, he can think of no other field that would have offered him the experience and rewards that the service provided. If he hadn't joined the military, he would have gone to law school. Given the chance, Vic would love to have one more dinner with his beloved father who passed away in 2013.

In his retirement, Vic plans to travel and spend as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren.

It's been great getting to know you a little better, Vic. Congratulations on your retirement. Your JAXFamily will miss you but wish you all the best.

Our JAX Mechanical Service Department fields the following
frequently asked questions on a daily basis:
How long should a cooling system last?
Life expectancy depends on the amount of cooling run time and how often the system receives preventative maintenance. In some parts of the country, the average residential cooling system’s run time is as much as 2,500 hours per year. Thus, after around 30,000 hours of cooling run time (12 years), your AC system will start to wear out, and you might consider replacement versus repair(s).
Proper (and consistent) preventative maintenance extends the life of an AC system.

Indoor air quality and system operation?
An out-of-warranty system that requires frequent repairs may be more than an expensive nuisance — it could also be unhealthy, even unsafe in some instances. Old dirty indoor coils, dirty burners, and cracked heat exchangers (if you have gas heat) will affect the quality of the air you breathe and will affect proper system operation.

If you think it may be time to replace your system, make an appointment for a system check-up before hot weather comes knocking. By evaluating the current condition of your equipment, we can help make your decision easy. Call JAX Mechanical @ 904-435-9010.

JAXCool is putting the final touches on a new High Rise Chocolate manufacturing facility in the Northeast United States. This Project was very difficult, considering the extremely high level of safety and quality required by the owner. This Project utilized for the first time in the United States a mineral wool non-combustible insulated metal panel from Sweden. The panels were manufactured overseas and placed into shipping containers and boated to the United States, then placed on flatbeds and delivered to the job site where we had to utilize a crane to offload and pull the panels out of the containers. Another crane was used to install the horizontally mounted panels to the structure. The butt joints will have a hat channel placed over them to complete the weathertight installation.
