Hafa Adai
It has been quite a busy month with several community events related to the liberation of Guam ceremonies plus several activities here at the Chamber that have filled our calendars. I would like to thank you for your feedback and support of the various offerings that we have planned with you in mind.
On Friday, July 29th, we held our first ever Chamber Health Fair and it was a success! Special thanks to our twelve health and wellness vendors and our very own members for braving the weather to participate and learn more about mind and body wellness.
The Guam Young Professionals (GYP) held its first of two virtual senatorial forums this week featuring Republican candidates running for the 38th Guam Legislature. It was good to hear from the candidates regarding their positions on issues important to the GYP and the business community at large. We'd like to send our special thanks to all candidates that participated in the July 28th forum. We look forward to next Thursday's event that will feature Democrat candidates. Be sure to register to view the live event. If you missed this week's forum, you can view the recording here or scroll down to learn more.
Your Chamber's Armed Forces Committee in cooperation with Joint Region Marianas has planned a workshop to help you understand how to do business with MWR. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 12th. Seats are limited so we encourage you to register today. Scroll down for registration details.
I just came back from joining the AmChams of Asia Pacific at their annual Washington DC Doorknock. The group's interest in meeting with members of the Biden Administration and with representatives from both the House and Senate was to promote efforts to restore U.S. economic leadership and advance shared prosperity and technological innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region. There is uncertainty in the strength and viability of the Administration's Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). Although the IPEF is seen as positive, there is skepticism of its effectiveness without traditional trade agreements, which locks in tariff reductions and trade terms.
The Guam Chamber is excited to host Ambassador Yuri Kim at our office next Wednesday, August 3rd. We'd love to have you join us in welcoming Ambassador Kim back home to Guam and learn more about her experience as a diplomat for the Department of State and her latest post as the U.S. Ambassador to Albania. Attendance is free however space is limited. We are asking that if you are interested in meeting Ambassador Kim to please register to attend.
There is much more work for us as a Chamber and a community as we remain focused on keeping the economy afloat in these challenging times. We also look forward to continued engagement with you and our fellow members as we navigate what will continue to be choppy waters ahead. If you missed Joe Arnett's talk at this month's general membership meeting about how businesses can stay resilient in these times of high inflation, you may want to give it a listen.
I hope that you are enjoying the last bits of summer with your family and friends and that you have reconnected with a favorite summer past time that brings you joy! I look forward to seeing you at a Chamber event very soon. Until then, enjoy the last few days of summer!
Onward together,
Catherine Castro
President
