BEAT THE HEAT!
New York City cooling centers and outdoor pools are now open!

Due to expected high temperatures in the following days, cooling centers are now open throughout the five boroughs.

To find a cooling center, including accessible facilities closest to you, call 311 or visit the City’s Cooling Center Finder. Face covering and social distancing are required inside cooling centers.

Additionally, the City’s outdoor pools are now open for the summer. They are open every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. More information can be found here. Head to Van Cortlandt Pool here in the 11th district at W 242 and Broadway.

Eligible New Yorkers can also obtain free air conditioners, including installation, through NY State’s Home Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP). To find out if you’re eligible, go here or call 311 and ask about the cooling assistance benefit.

It is important that we always remember to STAY HYDRATED and stay out of the sun for long hours. Call 911 if you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms due to heat illness:

·      Hot dry skin.
·      Trouble breathing.
·      Rapid heartbeat.
·      Confusion, disorientation, or dizziness.
·      Nausea and vomiting.
