Important Information for Copake Residents and
Businesses Without High Speed Internet
New York State will soon receive federal funds to expand broadband (high speed) internet service throughout the state, including in Copake where needed. Now is the time to ensure that you and everyone in Copake has service.
The amount of funding New York will receive will be based on coverage maps provided by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The problem with this is that the FCC has been relying on an interactive map that is not accurate; it uses census-tract data to identify areas it deems served by high-speed internet even if only one home in that area has service.
If you do not have access to broadband internet, please take a moment to review the map on the FCC website here: broadbandmap.fcc.gov, and confirm that it accurately reflects the availability of broadband to your home. If the map indicates that broadband is available to your home and you know it is not, report this to the FCC no later than January 13, using the tools provided on the website.
Step-by-step instructions are below, but please feel free to send your street address to Copake Town Clerk Lynn Connolly at copaketownclerk@townofcopake.org if you are having trouble accessing the survey.
Here is step-by-step help to check your location on the FCC map:
Enter your street address.
Click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner.
In the pop-up window, scroll down and select “Cable/Fiber.” Then select 100/20 speed, then “Close.”
Now check “Status” in the upper right hand corner.
If the status says “Served” and you know you are NOT served, click "Location Challenge" and fill out the form that pops up.
This may be our last chance to bring high speed internet to every home and business in Copake. If you don’t have broadband internet, now is the time to let NYS government know. The deadline for filling out the survey is January 13. If you need help, contact Town Clerk Lynn Connolly at copaketownclerk@townofcopake.org.
