Resource for World Mission Sunday (February 23)

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese,

World Mission Sunday (February 23) is fast approaching—a day that reminds us of our calling to share the gospel both in our local communities and throughout the world. As Anglicans, we stand in the rich tradition of global mission, recognizing that Christ’s love compels us to go, send, pray, and support the work of the gospel in every nation. Let us use this occasion to renew our commitment to the Great Commission,

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20, ESV

remembering that mission is not an option but a command and central to our faith. Let us pray for missionaries, churches, and all who labor to share the love of Christ and make Him known. May God strengthen and equip them for their work, that the gospel may go forth with power, bringing hope, healing, and reconciliation to a world.

O God, our heavenly Father, you manifested your love by sending your only-begotten Son into the world, that all might live through him: Pour out your Spirit on your Church, that we may fulfill his command to preach the Gospel to all people. Send forth laborers into your harvest; defend them in all dangers and temptations; and hasten the time when the fullness of the Gentiles shall be gathered in, and faithful Israel shall be saved; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
