In Today's Coram Deo with the Bishop:

  • Lenten Resources

Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese,

Epiphanytide is soon ending, and though we continue to reflect on the revelation of Jesus Christ as the savior of the nations a bit longer, we also prepare to enter a holy season of Lent.

Below you will find a variety of Lenten resources from across the diocese as well as the Anglican Church of North America. Some are for corporate worship, some are for private devotion, and some include basics on Lent for those who are new to our tradition. My hope and prayer is that they bless you as we prepare to enter into the Lenten season together. Thank you to those who sent in resources to share!

With my love and prayers,

LENTEN DEVOTIONALS

This Great Lent: The 40-Day Journey into Freedom

A Lenten Devotional from All Saints Church

Each day in this devotional consists of reading, praying, and doing. The time of 40 days is a journey to the cross and further into Easter. This “journey” is for all of us to take a new pilgrimage into greater and greater freedom as God takes us from “strength to strength.” Lent is the anticipation of Freedom, the look ahead to Easter.

Journey to Jerusalem

A Lenten Devotional from Grace Anglican Church

Eleven Grace writers want to join you as you make your Lenten journey to Easter morning. Each day they have a gift for you: a reading from a portion of the ACNA Sunday Eucharistic Lectionary, their reflection on its significance, and a prayer to encourage you along the way.

Cross & Crown

A Lenten Devotional from Oak Forest Church

Each day in this devotional consists of Scripture readings, prayers, and questions for reflection. If you only have 10 minutes to spare, not a problem! If you want to ponder the readings for hours, go for it! Our ultimate aim is to reflect meaningfully upon the death and resurrection of Christ, and our union with Him, while pursuing holiness.

2-Minute Video on Lent

Watch this 2-minute video from The Very Rev. Chris Findley, rector of St. Patrick's Anglican Church in Murfreesboro, TN. This video gives a quick description of what Lent is and how it is traditionally practiced.

Lent - Matthew 25 Initiative

At the Matthew 25 Initiative, our desire is to see the unseen and the marginalized treasured. And this Lententide, we will be telling the stories of the least of these through 40 days of Anglican-informed, inspiring, beautiful, and theologically robust engagement pieces — in the vein of the church's traditional disciplines of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. This year we are digging deep into Isaiah 58, and learning what God means when he says that He desires "true fasting."  We aim to highlight Anglican practitioner work that implements best practices alongside skilled justice and mercy literacy.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. - 1 John 3:16-18
