EAGLE VALLEY WILDLAND
WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
We are pleased to share that Eagle Valley Wildland has received the Wildfire Mitigation Award from the National Association of State Foresters (NASF), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the USDA Forest Service (USFS). This award is recognized as the highest national honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact, in wildfire preparedness and mitigation. In the letter announcing this award, Hugh Fairfield Smith shared that they are excited to share this award with CMD and the entire Cordillera community as they "play critical roles in the success of the program by demonstrating their commitment to reducing the threat of wildfire throughout the community".

CMD in partnership with the Eagle River Fire Protection District (ERFPD) and Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW) developed a 5-year plan for wildfire mitigation throughout the Cordillera community. In 2022, The District spent $50,000 to complete the Divide fire break and EVW with grant monies spent $79,000 to complete phase 2 and 3 of the divide mitigation effort. In 2023, CMD will contribute $200,000 to EVW and in turn will receive a minimum match grant contribution of $200,000 to complete projects with in the Ranch, Summit and Territories including a very large fire break between Belly Ache Ridge, Cordillera, and Diamond Star Ranch property lines. Stay tuned for more wildfire mitigation project information this spring.

Congratulations to Hugh and the entire Eagle Valley Wildland team for winning this prestigious award!
TRAIL GROOMING
The Cordillera Metro District Operations Team has been busy grooming the short course as well as our El Mirador, Camino, and Territories cross country ski trails, and the conditions are fantastic!
REMINDER FROM EAGLE RIVER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

Make sure the address marker at the end of your driveway is free of snow and clearly visible. The Metro District team will clear roadway identification signs.

The Metro District operations team is also working with Eagle River Water and Sanitation to clear snow from the 400 plus fire hydrants on the roadways.
INAUGRUAL CHRISTMAS TREE BONFIRE

The Cordillera Metro District, assisted by the Eagle Valley Wildland Team, hosted the first annual Christmas Tree Burn on January 13. Mulled wine, warm cookies and hot chocolate were served. 200+ Christmas trees were burned and a great time was had by all!

CORDILLERA METRO DISTRICT ELECTIONS
The call for nominations is official! The Designated Election Official (DEO) for the Cordillera Metropolitan District, Ms. Stacie Pacheco, is calling for nominations to fill two (2) positions on the District’s Board of Directors. The election to fill these two positions will be held May 2, 2023.

Individuals interested in serving a four-year term on the Board must complete and submit a Self-Nomination and Acceptance Form no later than 3 p.m. MST on Friday, February 24, 2023. Forms and more election information can be found here.

If you love Cordillera as much as we do, this is an outstanding opportunity to get involved. The CMD Board meets 6 to 8 times a year to set policy, manage budgets, develop short term and long-range capital improvement plans, and set goals and objectives for District owned facilities. The Board operates at a policy and strategic planning level and is generally not involved with day-to-day operations. Direction is instead given to the District’s General Manager who oversees contracts, service agreements and a professional staff of approximately 40 employees.
PLOW AND ROAD SAFETY

Property owners are responsible for maintaining their own driveways and parking areas following a storm. Plowing or shoveling snow onto streets or public rights-of-ways is not allowed; address markers and fire hydrants should be kept free of snow.

Metro District plows are on the road if Cordillera receives ½ inch or more of snow, or if icy conditions persist. Plows have the right of way in all situations, and property owners are asked to be cautious and courteous to ensure safe operations. When following plows, please allow plenty of space as sand and debris from the plows can damage your vehicle and windshield.

Snow removal contractors must register with the Cordillera Metropolitan District to operate within the community, allowing access in late evening and early morning.
SOME FRIENDLY REMINDERS:

Outdoor holiday lights - White lights may be displayed from November 15 through March 15, and colored lights are allowed from December 15 through January 15.  To preserve the quality of our dark night sky, outdoor holiday lights should be turned off at 10 p.m., or when guests have left for the evening.

On-street parking - As a general rule, there is no on street parking to assure unobstructed access for emergency vehicles and snow plows. Variances are available for special events, and homeowners should contact Public Safety at 970-926-2335 if overflow parking will be needed.
