CCSS Recommends Roper Center’s New Health Poll Database

Researchers and the public now have access to decades’ worth of public opinion with the launch of the Health Poll Database. This new resource was created by the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research at Cornell University and supported by funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This database, the first at this scale, offers access to questions and results from more than 85 years of U.S. national polls on health-related topics.

Fall 2021 Grants and Working Groups Awarded


This Fall, CCSS QuIRI is funding 19 small research grants, plus three working groups, to support graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty using qualitative methods. The deadline for spring applications is March 14, 2022.

Project Update: Impact of 2020 CCSS Special Topic Covid Grant

During Spring 2020, the CCSS funded 18 projects that investigated the social science of COVID-19.


Stephen Hilgartner’s project “Comparative Study of Expertise for Policy in the COVID-19 Pandemic," garnered funds from NSF, CCSS, and Schmidt Futures, allowing them to expand to 6 additional countries with a total of 16 countries. Their work was commended by the Director-General of the World Health Organization during a Schmidt Futures forum on pandemic preparedness. For more information visit the project website.

These fellowships provide the time and space for high-impact social scientific scholarship. This program creates an environment of intellectual exchange and an appreciation for interdisciplinary scholarship.

Ongoing: Accelerated Research Fellows Program


This program supports Cornell researchers during their phase one research and helps maximize a successful phase two proposal opportunity. 


Accelerated Research Fellows receive a one-course buyout and up to $10,000 (per team) to support unanticipated costs during their phase one year.

Jan 30, 2022: SSRC Just Tech Fellowship Full Application Deadline

The SSRC Just Tech Fellowship is a remote, two-year, full-time research fellowship that invests in a diverse community of researchers and practitioners who will identify and challenge injustices emerging from new technologies and identify solutions that advance social, political, and economic rights. 


The fellowship offers two-year unrestricted awards of $100,000 per year with the intention of opening space, time, and resources for fellows as they envision and enact more just technological futures. Robust supplementary funding packages augment the awards to subsidize dependent care, health care, workspace, technical equipment, project materials, communications, or other needs.
