Just Around The Corner!

Corner Lake Middle School Community Brief

Friday, November 22, 2024

Dear Corner Lake Community Member,

Last weekend my family and I decorated our house for Christmas. We normally decorate over Thanksgiving break, but we decided that we wanted to get an early start this year so that over the break we can totally focus on family fun and Thanksgiving. With the house all decked out for Christmas for a week now, it seems that our focus has raced forward to Christmas and right past Thanksgiving. Last night it dawned on me that I had almost forgotten about Thanksgiving and that very special time of year when we put an extra special focus on expressing gratitude!

Isn’t this true of life? We get so busy doing this and that, running here and there, that we often fail to thank those around us for the many wonderful things they have done to help us and to enrich our lives. When I was growing up, my parents always had my sister and me write thank you notes to people whenever they did something nice or helpful for us. I cannot say that as a young boy that I always enjoyed sitting down to write thank you notes, but it did teach me an extremely valuable lesson – we always need to remember to say thank you to others, even for the “little” things in life. It’s a lesson that, unfortunately, far too many people are failing to learn these days.

Therefore, in the spirit of thankfulness, I would like to thank you, our parents and school community, for allowing us the privilege and honor of working with your student each day and entrusting us with their care. We know how much you love them and how precious they are to you. We treat their care, safety and education with the utmost seriousness, giving this responsibility the attention it deserves.

Also, thank you for your continued support of Corner Lake Middle School. The constant encouragement and support that we receive from you makes all the difference.

I would also like to thank the teachers and staff of Corner Lake who give of themselves daily and sacrificially in order to enrich the lives of children. They do not do it for the “Thank You,” but they certainly deserve a lot of thank you’s.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank our wonderful students who make coming to work each day an absolute joy! Corner Lake Eagles are the best. They inspire and motivate me continually with their zeal, passion, enthusiasm, curiosity, determination, intelligence, inquisitiveness, kindness, and thoughtfulness. I am thankful for our Eagles!

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I look forward to welcoming our students back after the break. Go Eagles!

Make sure to return ALL overdue library books. Even if you have a book from ANOTHER OCPS school, you can return it to Corner Lake Middle. Mrs. Roberts will send it through the courier to the correct school. It is important to make sure all fines, missing book fees, and such are taken care of. Fine and fees must be settled WITH the school from which the fine or fee originated. Also, there are many fun activities and such in high school that require all fines and fees to be settled in order to participate.

There are TWO ways you can read books from your devices AT home, anytime. There are no losing books or fines, because they are automatically returned after two weeks! The TWO ways for e-books are SORA & DESTINY DISCOVER. There are literally THOUSANDS of reading options from these amazing online sources.

Logical Fallacy.

Ms. Hoaglund took some of her agriculture students to the Orange County FFA Fall Festival. They participated in leadership and team building activities.

Above and below: The leadership team brought holiday pies to the staff to show how thankful they are for everyone’s support for our students!

The staff was also shown gratitude by the beautiful and creative apple bar!

Builders Club and LIA have worked so hard organizing the baskets for our annual

Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Twenty-six boxes in total! Mrs. Watson’s 1st period won the competition of collecting the most items. Mr. Delice’s 1st period came in second! All efforts were so appreciated! Thank you to all who donated!

Happy Thanksgiving from CLMS!
