Hello St. John’s Family,
It felt wonderful to return and be with you in worship this past Sunday. Baptism of the Lord Sunday is one of my favorites, as it offers us a powerful reminder of how, through baptism, we find our true identity in Christ as God’s beloved children. Given all the challenges and struggles we’ve faced over the past 22 months, I sense we need that reminder. God sees you as beloved – never forget that!
Remembering our identity in Christ presents the perfect opportunity to affirm the calling to serve Christ faithfully that God extends on all our lives. During Sunday’s worship service, we affirmed and consecrated those in our St. John’s family who have responded to this call by service as leaders, teachers, and staff members for the upcoming year. Included with this week’s Cornerstone is a listing of our committees and leaders; know they are available if you have specific questions regarding the work of our congregation. I encourage you to keep these leaders in prayer, that God may direct and strengthen them as they serve and lead St. John’s forward. Also keep our faithful teachers, assistants, and staff in prayer as they continue to do excellent work in very challenging times. And to all our leaders and teachers: thank you for all you do in service to Christ! I am so thankful for the engaged and dedicated people who serve God by serving as leaders and teachers here – you are a tremendous blessing.
I also want to thank you – the people of St. John’s – for your faithfulness in financially supporting the work of God at St. John’s. To date, we’ve received over $349,500 in pledge commitments for 2022, representing a 15% increase over 2021 and addressing approximately 60% of our budget. Thank you for your commitment and faithfulness! If you haven’t had the chance to make a commitment and would like to do so, please contact Lou Lescas, our Business Administrator, or pledge online on our website. Also, for those interested in reviewing the budget, a copy is linked to this week’s Cornerstone. Please keep the work and finances of St. John’s in your prayers, and know your giving helps us live out our calling to be Open Arms and Serving Hands, Transforming Lives Through Christ.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Brad

YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL at 10:30 AM in the Youth Lounge
From off-brand cereals to knock-off luxury items, we know that anything of value probably has a counterfeit version floating around out there. The same is true for our faith. Maybe copying the behaviors of other believers was a great place to start your faith journey (we all start somewhere), but how can we move beyond copying Christians to actually following Jesus? How do we make our faith our own? The difference between a counterfeit faith and an authentic faith is growth and heart change.
Join Mrs. Gutsch and Mrs. Zesinger and discover that God can use just about anything to help us grow a faith of our own.

Throughout Scripture, the people who were moved by the Holy Spirit knew Him in a personal way. In this study, we will gain a better understanding of the role the Holy Spirit played in the lives of early believers, and how we too can personally know the Holy Spirit in our own life.

ST. JOHN’S HAS TALENT!
St. John’s congregation has talented people with many wonderful and exciting experiences to tell. To showcase this talent, United Methodist Men will be featuring this talent at their monthly meetings on the third Saturday of each month.
Our January speaker will be Dr. Richard (Rick) Gray, who will be speaking on “Our Trip to Israel: My Spiritual Awakening”. Rick has a great story to tell and one I think everyone will find personally meaningful.
Please join us at The Sycamore Grill, 255 North Sycamore Street, Newtown on
Saturday, January 15th at 10 a.m.
We will enjoy a great breakfast, good fellowship and camaraderie, as well as Rick’s inspiring words. Other talent who will be sharing with us in future months will include Sandy Rice and Jonathan Seamans.
